Thanks: Gave 3, Got 1 | Drilling a concrete ceiling
Hello,
Im trying to drill holes in my ceiling for my PJ mount, but i live in a flat and the ceiling is rock solid, im assuming its made from concrete. my cordless drill isnt getting in at all, any ideas what i need to do this?
im assuming the cordless drill isnt creating enough torque? also what kind of drill bit is needed?
TIA

You are right that a cordless drill is not man enough for the job generally.
You need a SDS drill (pneumatic) and masonary bit. These make light work of drilling through masonary and concrete but be warned they are bloody heavy when drilling upwards.

A mains electric drill with hammer action may be more effective. And you need to use a masonry bit. Regular (wood/metal) bits will get hot and blunt in seconds.

....and match the size of the masonry bit to the hole size required by the fixings.

..and wear eye protection, the PJ'll be no use if you're blind
..and don't drill through the ceiling

lol all went well guys :D used goggles and what not and the drill bit just sailed through, i used a cordless drill a few months back to try and drill a couple of holes to mount some speaker brackets, it left a mess all over the walls lol the masonery bit did the job though |
