Using Acrylic for cabinet - doors IR problem?

I'm thinking about building an av cabinet, and was thinking about using Acrylic for windows on the front (mainly because it seems a lot cheaper than glass and would be easy to cut to size). Would I be able to use remote controls through this?

I 've just done the same with a clear polystyrene sheet you can get in Homebase and it looks and works fine. Easy to cut/drill holes in.

I built an enclosure for an Iguana and the glass was cheaper than the perspex. Just look in the yellow pages and ask for the cheapest glass, they'll even put holes in them for handles....
