Re: what thickness adn type off timber to replace plasterboard
just use wbp ply. thickness wise would depend on what plaster board is already there and if it is tape n jointed or skimed

Re: what thickness adn type off timber to replace plasterboard
not fussed about finishing so far i intend on it not sticking out further than bracket depending on how many studs i hit .
i have found that my external walls have foil lined plasterboard which sends my stud finder nuts. will i have to foil line the wood or am i going to far

Re: what thickness adn type off timber to replace plasterboard
well as regards the foil it is a vapour barrier for the plaster board, you should be fine without it if you use wbp ply.
Be sure to seal around the ply when it is in

Why dont you just fit some 18mm ply behind the plasterboard?

Re: what thickness adn type off timber to replace plasterboard
To me it sounds like a very bad idea to cut the wall about on a new timber frame house. If you need to get a better fixing why not fix the piece of ply over the top of the plasterboard and paint it the same colour?

Re: what thickness adn type off timber to replace plasterboard
ok had a rethink and a peek through the window of a un plastered house
i have marked my wall where i want the bracket i seem to be hitting a 3" stud (maybe 2 next to each other) on the left edge and a 1" stud about 2" in from the right.
from the peek through the window the stud goes from floor and butt to the roof.
and are against a osb type board
do you guys think it will be safe enough to screw my 50" plasma to these studs without any other type of bracing ?? i am sure my tv is just under 50kg
thanks for any advice stuarty
