New install (cabling advice)

Hi

We are renovating the new flat so now is a perfect time to make sure I have the correct cables/points in each room.

Could anyone please advise if what I am planning sounds right or if you could make any suggestions/recomendations.

Lounge (Main AV room)

3 x cat5e points
1 x aerial for freeview
2 x sat for sky plus

I am also having a 5.1 speaker system installed, would it be recomended to have all the cables going into a 5.1 faceplate and then to the amp or not?

Master and 2nd bedroom
2 x cat5e points
1 x aerial for freeview
1 x sat for Freesat

Would I be able to split the aerial and sat cable to dual feed a twin input recorder or would I need to have 2 of each?
If I wanted to have Sky magic eye setup in this room, what cable would I need to have in both the master bedroom and the lounge?

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like the connections you plan on running to each room are adequate, as long as there isn't major upgrading in the future.
The 5.1 faceplate (I assume for speaker connections) can make the cables a little tidier, but you may want to think about a 7.1 faceplate in case you choose to upgrade in the future to take advantage of the new sound formats on blu-ray.
I don't know much (anything) about sky connection, but the freeview aerial can be split almost as much as you like. Beware though that this can introduce a poor signal if cheap splitters are used. You may be better off using a powered distributer, often located in the loft.

hi,

on the advice of other forum members, I installed 4xcat 5 and 2x sat grade co ax into each room, returning to a media cupboard.

if you're thinking of using sky+ and dab etc , then it would be good to run 5 x sat grade co ax from the loft to your cupboard too.

think carefully about the location of the points in each room, so that they are positioned where you want your TV to be.

also - if you're planning on multi room system that takes wall controllers, you'll also need to plan accordingly.
