Question Lay Carpet over Semi-Solid Wood Floor?

Since we moved in, we layed some semi-solid wood flooring in the main room. It reflects a fair bit of light when the projector is in use, so I was considering getting a rug to help.

However I am now thinking, could I just have come carpet laid on top of the wood? Would I need underlay or could the existing flooring sort of act as that?

Anyone done anything similiar with carpet?

Re: Lay Carpet over Semi-Solid Wood Floor?

Eddiem loose carpet over the top sounds a lot like a rug to me....

If you want to carpet the floor properly there are number of reasons to use underlay Carpet Underlay Shop | FAQ

Hope this helps.

Re: Lay Carpet over Semi-Solid Wood Floor?

We had our lounge & hall carpeted over laminate if that helps?
(it was quite thick original IKEA glued laminate, a bitch to get up, but solid)

The carpet fitter was'nt too happy about it & wanted to take it up, but he also wanted a fair few hundred quid to do so!, so I just insisted he carpet over the top.

He put down gripper rods nailed into the laminate, then underlay, then the carpet.

Apart from the slight height difference in carpets between the rooms, you cannot tell, it was done about 4 - 5 years ago.

If the laminate/wood floor is a good solid base why not carpet over it?
