Google SketchUp of Loft COnv. Cinema Room

House renovations are starting in about a month. Victorian house is being gutted. Home Cinema is going in the loft conversion. Just discovered Google SketchUp and rustled this up in about 3 hours. Cool program!! My model is a bit cr** though.

It'll be a 110" wide 2.35:1 CIH screen. Floorstanders will go sideways under the screen along with the centre behind a stage framework with black speaker grille cloth stretched over it. 16:9 masking by manually operated 'shutters' hinged to side of screen. When watching 2.35:1 they swing flush with the side walls acting as anti reflective covering on side walls close to screen sides.

Equipment will go in a recessed rack in space under eaves.

Radiator cabinet and DVD shelving unit to right of room.
L shaped couch at back of room.
Left side wall is 1.5m tall. Apex of roof is 2.4m and thus right side wall is about 2m.

Spiral staircase up to loft from second floor. Shower and WC room to right of HC room.

Room shape is set in stone. What do you guys think?

Re: Google SketchUp of Loft COnv. Cinema Room

Looking grand mate and great for a first attempt at sketchup!

I just discovered it recently and am 'building' each room in my flat renovation too (victorian tenement)

I would possibly switch the shelving unit over the the eaves side and reposition the sofa more central, but that's just my opinion you are the one using it after all.

Good luck with the build -look forward to real pics as you progress!

Oh and I'm not sure but wouldn't the constant heat from the rad damage your collection of movies if you put it below your shelving unit?

Took your advice mate and have moved the rad. I now want to get the guys to create a recess for flush DVD shelves when they frame and plasterboard the room. I've done some more work on the sketchup and created a little animation.

Re: Google SketchUp of Loft COnv. Cinema Room

From the look of the fly through I think you have it sussed - nice clean and effective - especially like having the rack recessed into the wall on the left so that you don't see it when watching movies etc.

For the size of room what have you thought about for speakers?

Any progress on the actual build yet?

Re: Google SketchUp of Loft COnv. Cinema Room

Hiya mate,

The look I am aiming for is something like this Edgeyboy's Cinema - AVForums.com
in terms of colours anyway.

For the speakers I am making do with what I have but with the addition of one of those 500 quid SVS12's I read about. What I already have is a pair of Mission M74 Floorstanders, 73c Centre and 70DS dipole surrounds and a smaller mission centre/back who's designation escapes me. I've a Sony DB1080 Receiver. Gonna make do with these as funds will be tight with the build and other equipment I need to get like matrix switchers for sending Sky around the house, Multi terabyte storage server, and minipc's like the asrock330 for every room running XBMC. Oh and an AE4000/3D Ae5000 has to be purchased too. AE900 will have to do for a few months after build completion. Need to save up for two B&W mt30 5,1 speaker sets for two other rooms and cheapish receivers. Its quite a shopping list, so the Cinema room speakers and receiver are going on the very long finger.

The room will be 11ft across the screen wall and about 15ft long.

We're moving to rented accomodation in about 10 days with the renovations due to star a week after that. Projected build time is 22 weeks. I'll start posting pictures when things start to get interesting.
