TV - media box long/remote connection

We are building a new house and want to put the flat screen TV on the wall but the virgin cable media box (samsung) in a cupboard at the other end of the room. Will we have to use a very long scart lead to connect the 2 or is there some other means ? Thanx.

Not 100% sure but with a Sky box you have 2 RF outputs. So would be a simple case of running a coaxial cable from box to tv. RF will probably be cheaper than a 10+ ft scart cable but the quality may not be as good. Also with the Sky box you can fit a Magic Eye so you can control the box whilst its hidden away.

Im sorry this isn't 100% but I cannot imagine the Sky boxes and Virgin boxes to be that dis-similar.

A quick google search has pulled up that the standard Virgin boxes only have one RF output. To use a Magic Eye you will need a "TV Link + Box"

Have a look at this. http://www.tvlink.co.uk/tvlinkplus.htm

Re: TV - media box long/remote connection

Your best bet would be would be some sort of SCART to Cat5e transmit / receive modules to be able to keep your video signal in the highest possible quality. RF might be acceptable, but it will be the lowest possible quality.

You'll need to check what output the scart connector is, RGB or YUV.

I am also not sure that your Cable TV box will actually have an RF output.

Re: TV - media box long/remote connection

i've just done this and laid an HDMI cable from one side of the room where the TV is, under the floor, to the media cupboard where the virgin box is.

its working fine - although now i just need to work out how i'm going to control everything from 1 remote!
