Bricks and Morter flat?

I want to do up the living room of my current place which I own. It's a flat on the 3rd floor of a 5 story building.

I keep looking for ideas on the forum but it seems the vast majority of installs have been on modern semis and the like with plaster and stud walls etc. I keep getting put off as all my walls are solid concrete/brick which makes things like recessing and channels out of my reach. So I'm wondering if anyone has any threads/images of stuff done in a similar environment to mine?

I'll get photos/diagrams up soon.

Re: Bricks and Morter flat?

Don't be put off by solid walls, it's still possible to do things like sink cables into the wall etc. with the right tools and methods. What are your DIY skills like?

If you don't fancy the thought of chopping channels into your solid walls then there are lots of people on these forums who like the d-line trunking, so maybe that would be worth a look too?

Another popular option is the floating wall - you'll find many excellent examples on these forums with a quick search. This option or something along those line would allow you to hide cables, recess your screen etc. if that is something you're after.

Cheers.

Couldn't agree more. Even with basic skills you can build a studwork frame and screw plasterboard to it. The possibilities are endless and it needn't be that expensive either.

Re: Bricks and Morter flat?

I was looking into doing a floating wall. I'll check with the building landlord how they'd feel about me channelling. My DIY skills are ok, but a fast and careful learner.

Re: Bricks and Morter flat?

Hello mate, i have just re done my lounge in my flat, which like yours has solid walls, do not be worried about channelling, it just takes a bit of time and patience but is worth it. I even drilled straight through from the back of AV rack to a cupboard in my bedroom to run HDMI and Speaker cable for my bedroom install. Give it a go!!

Good luck with it!
