What do universities, etc. use in their anechoic chambers?

Who's up for a power buy on those huge acoustic-foam wedges that line the interior of professional anechoic chambers? Proper broad-band absorber that'd be....

Ideally you want them in a concrete and lead lined room and door with an airtight door seal, with a skimpy cattle grid platform to walk on (so the real floor can have those wedges too). Once you're inside, it's kind of creepy though.

Yeah, I know - I saw the inside of the local anechoic chamber while I was a student - but, you know, first things first.

Etymotic earphones are a more realistic plan I think.

I've long toyed with the idea of assembling a huge collection of egg boxes, and tiling them to the walls with a big squirt of fix and foam inside each box. I'm sure it would work, but it might not be aesthetically pleasing :-)

Oops, no I haven't seen seen human traffic, have I just suggested something distasteful?

I just (simply) meant that egg boxes would be difficult to decorate.

Egg boxes would be a lousy absorber anyway. Might be an okay diffuser....
