Question Floating wall - how to attach rawl bolts?

I'm just in the process of installing the bracket for a 50" plasam to tbe mounted on and have run into a problem. I'm using rawl bolts (M8, 140mm) similar to these:

RAWLPLUG

Unfortunately, two of the fixings go into a part of the wall which used to be a doorway and the blocks used seem to be made out of Cadbury's crunchies and are not offering enough purchase on the anchor. Consequently, the anchor just spins in the hole.

Do I need some kind of resin to fix these into the blocks?

Are these fixings adequate or would I be better with the projecting bolt type fittings?

Re: Floating wall - how to attach rawl bolts?

they shouldn't be spining around once thitened, as once you have tigtened them they should grip as they expand

Try anchor bolts, they are designed for plaster board etc.

Re: Floating wall - how to attach rawl bolts?

I would suggest you use resin anchors, but you don't use resin to fix your existing anchors. Threaded stud bolt is used which is set in place, then the tv bracket held in place with a nut. The hole drilled must be of the specific size to suit the anchor, and the hole cleaned after drilling as per the manufacturer's instructions.

Have a look here for the type of thing I mean.

Regards,
MarkP

Re: Floating wall - how to attach rawl bolts?

follow markp's link, its exactly what i used to do mine

6 x m8x110mm threaded rods (they some with washer and nuts)
1 380ml resin and had to buy a resin gun too
put the mount to the wall make sure level and mark where you want the holes

drill the holes i used a 10mm bit and drilled 9.5 cms, that way the rod stuck out 1.5cm (i used 6, but you could use 4 or 8 depending on tv size etc)

clean out all holes so they are free from dust etc

fill 1 hole at a time with resin and insert rod, i used a screwing motion, to work the resin completely on rod (warning there will be resin oozing out, have a cloth to hand and cover carpet) the reason for 1 at a time, this resin sets very very quickly!!

i did the top 2 outside ones first, then mounted the mount to the wall and filled the last of holes while mount was up, this way you know it will go on rods, if one rod is even a mm out of line, you will find impossible to put mount up.

also using this method is a pain if you want to move it, as once its up, it aint going nowhere!! (well not with out and effort that is )

Re: Floating wall - how to attach rawl bolts?

hi, and apologies for hi-jack, but it is on topic.
My 42" plasma (32kg) needs wall-mounting onto a thermalite wall covered in 12.5mm dot'n'dab board.
The bracket supplier sold me some mongo (?) bolts, about 70mm long with what looks like a standard 10 gauge raw plug (not ribbed)?

I'm thinking these may not do the job even if i use 8 of em?

Re: Floating wall - how to attach rawl bolts?

my wall is the same set up as yours, tried using standard wall plugs like you describe and because of the wall type they just turn and turn, so went for the method ive put above, the threaded rods, resin and resin gun was £40 in total, £40 for total peice of mind as to be worth it

if you want to attempt the stuff youve been supplied, you could always drill a hole and test one to see what sort of bite you get in your wall (just drill the hole where it will be covered by the bracket)
