Thanks: Gave 15, Got 35 | Shiva tube sub complete
Well almost complete needs some final polishing and finishing, but hopefully I've attached some pics.
Basically it's a 140 litre vented tube, driver in the bottom.
The base it sits on was kindly provided by Taz (cheers Taz !).
I'm happy with the sound, not so happy with the veneering, trying to veneer a tube was probably biting off more than I could chew, but it's not too bad.
I'll post frequency response later if anyones interested.
Cheers
Slingshot

And here's the top port, needs a grill making from speaker cloth, just loathe to buy a meter when I only need 4 inch diameter.

Here's the in room response. 50 Hz peak is due to room and is normally pretty bad (mains normally show a 15db peak around here)
Thought I had the X-Over at 80Hz but looking at the measurements it appears to be about 60Hz so I really need to redo it.
I adjusted the tuning frequency to smooth it out downto 20Hz but have lost some db's below.

with a quick bfd'ing it has the potential to be a very flat response. Even as it is it looks good

Thought about a BFD, but I'm leaning more to room treatement because that should then sort the mains out aswell.
I use the mains full range for music (sub added for the really low stuff using the X-Over on the sub).
I actually did some measurements a couple of inches from the sub to prove it was the room (i.e the room reflections should have naff all effect at that distance) and it was a lot more impressive, so maybe I should stick the sub on my head.

I would do the room treatment too if I had the chance, you really want the use of as little equalisation as you can get away with

slingshot,
Looks really nice mate, and I can't see anything wrong with the veneer on the picture
Sorry if i've missed these in a previous thread, but out of curiosity, what type of veneer and amp have you used ?
PM me your address, and i'll forward some speaker cloth FOC as i've got loads to spare. Ordered 0.5m from Maplin and they sent me 4m of the stuff.
Regards

Good work slingshot!
And as Exeter Man stated - can't see anything wrong with the veneer on that image.
Also interested in which amp you used | |

The veneer is just cherry veneer I got from http://www.jcrispinandsons.co.uk/
I used glue film to attach it, which is excellent for flat surfaces, however it's a bit difficult on convex surfaces (maybe contact adhesive would work better next time.
The amp is a 200Watt BKS jobby, it's separate from the sub (actually leant against the wall until I get round to making a box for it !)
Cheers exeter man PM on it's way, let me know and I'll at least pay the postage.
Cheers
Slingshot.

I've tried PVA and contact adhesive for attaching veneer, and would definitely recommend contact adhesive as the most straightforward method if you haven't got all of the pucka veneering kit (eg. press, vacuum jobbie etc).
