How do i hang a 25KG mirror on the wall?
Hi guys,
As the title suggests, i have bought a large heavy mirror and and looking to hang it in my cinema room also known as the living room
The wall i hope to hang it on is solid and not plasterboard so can i get away with heavy duty hooks or do i need some sort of specialist fixings?
The back of the mirror has two indentations or holes for the hooks i.e. there is no wire or loops on the back presumably because its too heavy for those.
Cheers

Is it all glass or does it have a frame or backing?

For some strange reason I read the title as - How do i hang a £25K mirror on the wall?

Its all glass, on the back there is some sort of backing there is two "holes" for hanging it up just not sure if i need something similar to how a LCD/Plasma is hung, maybe bolts or something as picture hooks would not withstand 25KG

Are they little keyhole shapes ?. If so I have, in the past, just used two longish screws and some very careful measuring and hung them on that.

Yes they are exactly that - keyhole shape, are you sure just a couple of screws can hold that weight? With normal wall plugs?

Use brown plugs and No10 x 70mm screws and you should be fine. If you're worried you can buy some resin fixings but personally I think they're not needed.

If they are keyhole shaped they are for screws. You just need to find what size screws will fit in the holes, try 3 inch tens or twelves.

Yeah just to reitterate what has just been said, two screws will be fine. Just make sure they are not tiny little things. Oh and you have a very accurate tape measure as I for one have not been able to work out a more "scientific" method of mounting in this way than just to go for it.
When you say its a solid wall is it breeze block or brick ?.

Its the wall which seperates my house from my neighbour, would that mean its brick?
Does it make a difference?

Well just from reading the threads about tvs etc going onto breezeblocks vs bricks. People have mentioned hanging anything heavy onto breezeblocks can be a little problematic as they tend to crumble a litte. How old is your house ??

Re: How do i hang a 25KG mirror on the wall?
Breeze blocks are totally rubbish for fixing. These aren't to be confused with the much stronger fire blocks which are tougher than brick.
If they are indeed breeze blocks then you need to use a resin anchor for each fixing.

breeze are great for fixing unlike airated concrete blocks. Im a joiner and fix things to many different backrounds and breeze is 1 of the good 1s to fix to
