Basic Wall mounting help..

Hi,

I'm going to be fixing a wall mount to the wall tomorow. It is this one:

Black LCD TV Wall Mount Bracket for LG 50PS3000: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

The instructions that came with it are pretty rubbish in bad english. Anyway it seems simple enough I'm just struggling to understand why it is suggesting to only use 6 of the screws (Lag Bolts) to fix the plate onto the wall. There's loads of holes on it so I don't know why. It says this:

Quote:

Use the wall plate as a template to mark 6 holes locations on the wall. The outer holes must fall to outside of the large two holes in the middle of the plate. Three in the top row slots and three more in the bottom row. Make sure these holes are level and there is at least 200mm between any two holes. Pre-drill these holes with a 10mm masonry bit to at least 60mm in depth. Insert a Concrete Anchor into each of these holes. Attach the Wall plate to the wall using 6 Lag Bolts and 6 M4/M5/M6 washers.
It came with only 6 Lag bolts. So can you guys help me out here. Here is a picture of the bracket:

Where is the ideal place to put the 6 bolts? Could someone circle them on paint/photoshop and re post the picture?

Wouldnt it be better to fit it with 8 bolts? (4 on each side)

What are the small holes in the middle used for?

Is there some better bolts you could recommend that I could go and pick up in B and Q or Wickes tomorow?

Any help much appreciated!

Cheers, Oli

Re: Basic Wall mounting help..

Haven't used that specific mount before but I'd say those bolts are to screw the bracket to the TV not to the wall.

As for the wall bracket, the more the merrier really as long as you get decent quality fixings.

My 40" LCD is held up with 8 x 2-1/2 inch screws and red rawl plugs. The fixings are good quality into a good brick wall, tv isn't going anywhere!

I'd say 4 on each side, depending on your wall quality really and size/type of TV.

IF you have a plasma then I'd use anchor bolts as plasmas are quite heavy.

Hope that helps a bit.

Re: Basic Wall mounting help..

Yeah its for a 50" Plasma that weighs exactly 34.5kg . The brick wall its going on is nice and solid and in good condition. The screws (they call lag bolts) are definately the ones they suggest to use to fix the plate to the wall. Why do they suggest 6 do you reckon? I was thinking it is so no 2 screws are too close to each other, but not sure. I think I'm gonna get a set of 8 new fixings for it, Anchor bolts you say? How about these:

Re: Basic Wall mounting help..

Hi yeah for a plasma I'd definetly use anchor bolts and probably a couple of extra 2-1/2 inch screws. I'd personally put 4 on each side in a square like you're mentioning .. If it's a good brick wall then you'd be suprised how close you could get if you really wanted, but 4 each side is more than far apart enough.

All the force is downwards, not outwards so a beefier bolt has higher shear strength hence why I'd opt for anchor bolts.

Just make sure you use the correct size drill bit for the anchor bolt, too big or too small and you'll have a crap fixing.

And yeah those sheild anchors should do the trick.. get a couple of these too.. put them on the top, make sure they are 100% level though, makes fitting it up a bit easier http://www.screwfix.com/prods/68347/...90mm-Pack-of-5

only thing you gotta watch for is that they dont stick out too far from the wall and interfere with your tv fitting onto the bracket... we've used those bolts to put a 50" plasma and a 50" lcd up with no problems.

Re: Basic Wall mounting help..

Ok cool, so gonna go for 8 of those ones you recommended, and put 4 on each side. Is it worth putting 2 or 4 of the screws they provided in the middle holes too? There's a screwfix up the road from me so gonna grab them tomorow. I'm assuming to fit these I would simply mark the holes, drill the required size whole with the correct masonry bit, insert the rawl plugs (do i just stick em in?) then screw the bolts in nice and tight?

Like this or should I not bother with the screws in the middle? ::

Anything I'm getting wrong or forgetting? Sorry I'm new to all this! Any tips/advise/experiences much appreciated!!

Cheers, Oli

Re: Basic Wall mounting help..

Putting the 4 in the middle won't hurt really use washers though.

Place the bracket on the wall in the required location and at correct height... use a decent spirit level to make sure its level then mark the holes.

Drill the holes using the correct sized SDS bit, make sure you drill straight and not deeper than the rawl bolt itself.

Usually you'll need to tap the bolts in with a hammer.. then place the bracket over the bolts that stick out the wall, put the nuts on and make sure its level.. once it's level and tight you can then put all the other bolts in.

Anchor bolts can be a pain in the arse at times so take your time and drill carefully else they tend to spin in the hole which isn't good.

When you screw those brackets to your TV you can adjust the height slightly but also you need to make sure the brackets are level on the back of TV else the TV will be wonky.. I have a very similar bracket

Good luck!
