A little help positioning my front speakers please.

I am just finishing over doing my lounge up and putting in all my kit. For my front i have 2 Monitor Audio R90 speakers on the MA stands. My plasma is mounted on my chimney breast with the centre speaker, an R225 mounted below it. Am i best putting the left and right fronts either side of the plasma, on the chimney or will they be too close together? Or should i place them as far apart as possible? Cheers

Re: A little help positioning my front speakers please.

Bear in mind that every living-room setup is compromized by its setting, walls and objects. Placing the stereo speakers directly next to your tv is useally not the best setup (unless you have this 21:9 toy. One should, imho, always test the speakers in different settings and weigh the pro's and con's of those settings...

But please post a picture of the 2 set-ups in mind.

Re: A little help positioning my front speakers please.

I'll post pics in the week. I've been looking at alot of other peoples pics and many people seem to mount speakers to the left and right of their screens. Even manufacturers websites show this. I presume the speakers throw the sound out quite a bit??

Re: A little help positioning my front speakers please.

Well, a lot depends on the type of speakers. I for instance am using 2 TMA 903 MK-IV's as stereo speakers and a Canton Movie 150 XL 5.1 set to complete 7.1 surround. Since the TMA's are bottom-semi-high-end speakers they are placed further from each other and still produce a well ballanced and full (centered) sound. If I were to place the Canton satelites at the same position as the TMA's they sound way to far apart from each other...

Audio is a very personal and subjective choise. In my case I hate the sound of Kef and B&W in the EUR 600,- class and preffered the Dali Ikon 6, but was blown away by the richness of the TMA's

Monitor Audio R90 fronts with a R225 centre.

Re: A little help positioning my front speakers please.

Think those are like the Canton's and are best placed closer to the screen. But still try different settings in your room...

Re: A little help positioning my front speakers please.

But isn't the R225 a floor standing stereo speaker?! I would use 2 of those as the front satelites...
