How big is your cinema room?
Hi All,
I'm in the early stages of planning a house extension and one of the new rooms will double as a guest room and cinema - but mainly a cinema. I wanted to know the dimension of your cinema rooms, and not just the dedicated ones so include lounges etc.
I think I can get away with 3m by 4m, possibly 3m x 4.5-5m and wanted to know what you guys thought from your own experiences.
Cheers!
Rob

My living room is currently about 3.5 x 4 and it's a nice size...
We've had plans approved for an extension so when it's sorted it'll then be 6m x 5m WOOOOO!

I kind of think 3m is a little narrow, but as you say 3.5 might just make the difference. Depends of whether we want to have a path down the side of the house to the garden! Our living room is 5x4 and is great but for the noise issue filtering upstairs...
6 x 5 - nice!

Can imagine 3m might feel narrow. Our 3.5m is between me and the screen which works alright.
Fortunately the new 6x5m is single storey so don't have to worry about people upstairs which is handy.

Re: How big is your cinema room?
Mine is 4m wide by 5.75m long; this seems to work pretty well.

Re: How big is your cinema room?
Funnily enough the plans came through the post today so it looks like we could go for a room of 3.3m x (4.8 and 5.6m its an odd shape!). Viewing distance would be along the long axis so say 4m. This part of the extension will be a single story part sticking out of the edge of the house so we can make as much noise as we want!
Thanks for the info and thoughts so far - very useful.

Re: How big is your cinema room?
Since boxing the alcoves in, ours is approx 3x3.5 and feels fine...maybe because we used to have the TV across the room (3m) so it feels bigger as it's further back.
With the screen down, it more or less fills the width of the room and looks ace (IMO).

Have alook at mine in the gallery its the same size as your room, with the right colours and design you can make a room seem much bigger.

Re: How big is your cinema room?
Mine's 5 x 6.8 metres, but I should think 3.5 x 4 should still work with a one rows of seats. At 3.5 x 4.5 you could just about squeeze a second row in...

Re: How big is your cinema room?
There is obviously a wide range of room sizes out there (including some pretty large ones - must be tough not being able to get a pool table in too!!!!) and I suppose each of us is fairly happy with what we have. In a previous house I had a 2.5 x 2.75m room which I actually thought was OK...clearly it wasn't great - especially with a Paradigm Servo 15 sub in it...Used to almost blow the door out!
Mossym - nice room! What's the distance between the sofas and the screen?
Thanks again for the info - I'll check our your galleries to see how you've arranged your rooms...while I've got the chance I may as well get it right!

Re: How big is your cinema room?
Dedicated room is at 3mtr wide x 5mtr long and built right up to boundary limits re: width. Iv'e managed to squeeze in the maximum size screen and i am happy with the outcome. Ideally i would have liked to be at 4mts width so as to have the option to have fitted motorised screen curtains but not to be

Re: How big is your cinema room?
That's a great looking room - and from the pic seems much wider than 3m!
