Wallpaper Stripper?

Hi

I started my project of renovating my house yesterday and though it would be best to do it one room at a time so I started with the dining room, when that is finished I will move onto the living room / cinema room then the bathroom and then the kitchen.

The entire house is wallpapered and the previous owner painted over the wall paper, I got about a quater of the wall done yesterday with a scaper but man oh man that wallpaper is on tough. Is there a steamer or wall paper remover that will work with wallpaper thats been painted on, as I'm sure that would make my life quite a bit easier.

Re: Wallpaper Stripper?

I had a similar problem a few years ago.

I bought a bog standard wall paper steamer from one of the DIY stores, scored the paper slightly with a stanley and steamed away.

The paper came of a treat!!

Steamer all the way, wouldn't even think of attempting it without one.

Re: Wallpaper Stripper?

I had exactly the same problem where the wallpaper was painted over and the steamer would not touch it, only way I found to get it off was a heavy duty scraper like this which takes the top layer off, then the steamer will make easy work of the rest of it.

Yeah, I had a couple of stubborn rooms like this (3 layers of paper and multiple layers of paint over the top!). I ended up steaming, scraping (to get the worst of the paint off) and then just whizzing over it again to get the rest.

Steamer makes it very easy! I hired a big industrial one from Jewsons tool hire for a couple of days for not much money and it made really quick work of it all!

Re: Wallpaper Stripper?

If you can get the top layer of wallpaper off first by pulling at corners it will make the steaming much easier

Re: Wallpaper Stripper?

What I found I have to do because some of it is so tough to get off, I have to steam one area then pull the paint layer off then steam the area again to get the rest of the wall paper off, hopefully I'll have it all done by the weekend and I can start painting next week
