Set Up help

Evening all,

Okay my Panasonic DMP-BD80 arrived today and I thought it would straight forward to set it up on the advice from the bloke in the panasonic shop...but it's not...

Okay my set up is :

Panasonic TH-42PX700B
Panasonic DMR-EX87 (DVDR)
Panasonic SA-PT850 (Surround Sound)

Now the TV only has 2 HDMI ports on the back and one on the front (I don't particularly want the front panel open all the time)

Now the Surround sound system and the DVDR currently use the rear HDMI ports.

Now to add the Blu Ray player the guy in the shop told me all I would need is an optical cable from the BR into the surround sound system, but it's not working. I've also tried the Video Lead and Optical cable from the Blu Ray into the TV, I have sound but no picture.

So whats the best way forward please. The Blu ray has no Scart, but does have HDMI, component and video out etc.

TIA

So far as I can see you will not have any video information coming from your surround sound unit to the TV. I'd suggest that you connect this unit through a scart lead and plug both the DVDR and bluray through the HDMI connectors.

I did a little more research. Your surround sound system is also a DVD/CD player. So you have 3 disc players, one of which supplies the surround sound. Hmmm ...

The sound system only has one analogue audio input (other than the Scart) and that is stereo. It also has one optical digital input. So tot get 5.1 sound from bluray you need to connect the optical lead from Bluray to the sound system. Plug the sound system and the BluRay in by HDMI. This should give the best picture quality. Plug the recorder in to the TV by Scart. If you have a spare Scart socket on the TV then connect that to the sound system.

With the limited number of connection options available I think that will be your best compromise.

Are you always going to play bluray through the sound system?
Will you ever want to connect more sources?

Not sure about more sources, I doubt it. I may get rid of the Surround system "box" and replace it with a seperate receiver at some point in time.

But many thanks for the reply, much appreciated. In the end I bought Neet 3-1 HDMI switcher and two more HMDI cables. Plus the Blu Ray is also connected as you suggested.
