Advice on connecting PS3

howdy comrades, my friend bought a Panny plasma and got PanasonicSC-PT470 free with it, its only has a DVD player but he's got a PS3, would this work.

Connect PS3 straight into plasma using hdmi and connect a optical lead to the panasonic SC-PT470.

Your thoughts
