Needed advice and guidance

Hi,

I have a Samsung Plasma A 756, Samsung BD 1600, Onkyo SR 674E, which I am changing to Onkyo 605 in a couple of days and have recently got my Sky+HD, thanks to the forum. Have hooked them to Linn Komponent front/ surround, B&W Centre and Rear and Velodyne sub.

I am a bit novice on this front. What are best tips that I can get to setup the entire system so that I get the best out of Plasma, BD, Amp and HD box (Video and Audio both).

Cheers and Thanks a lot in advance.

Do try to set up the speakers symmetrically round the TV e.g. left and right speakers to the left and right of the TV. I know it may sound silly, but if people insist on keeping the TV in the room corner (where the old CRT TV used to be) then they can have real problems setting up the speakers properly.

Do spend time (a lot!) on setting up the TV. A good start is to switch off all the special picture features (and only gradually bring them back in - if it improves the picture), and reduce the colour temperature to about 6500 K (most sets are much too high).

Don't have the sub-woofer turned high.

Run the player through the amplifier via HDMI cables; so you get high resolution audio as well as pictures. Set the TV so it "just scans" all HD inputs; and make sure the player is outputting at 24fps.

This was for the player, whats the best tips for getting best out of the HD box.

Cheers

If all your HD sources are via the amplifier, then there's only a single HDMI link to the TV. Then you need to set up the TV itself so that it "just scans" (or whatever term the manufacturer uses) on that single input.

I can't help you with specifics on your HD box - I've just got three HD players ... yes, you're right the 24 fps only applies to the player when it's outputting BD films.

If you take the HDMI link from the box directly to the TV, then you can optimise picture quality just for that input. You'd need a separate audio link from the box to the amplifier.
