Best quality

Hi all.

I have been given a philips 42 42PF5520D/10 plasma tv and i am looking for some advice on getting the best quality picture i can.

The tv is not HD ready but can support EDTV (480p).

First i need to know is what are the best cables to use, the tv has a dvi connector, scarts and rca.

As i understand it to get the best i will need a progressive scan DVD player but i am not sure on how best to connect it up.

And also my sky+ is currently using a scart lead, would i be better using one of those RGB scart converters or something else.

Any advice will be a great help.

Re: Best quality

Leave the Sky+ via SCART, ensure it is set to RGB/16:9 and SCART Control On in the picture settings and that the SCART input on the TV is RGB capable (usually AV1). Check the TV's manual.

Does the TV have component video inputs (green/blue/red)? I don't know much about your TV, HDMI to DVI is probably your best option, plus a separate audio cable. Do a search on your TV and see what turns up in the forum.

Re: Best quality

Just had a look at my sky settings, changed the aspect ratio to 16:9 but the video output was already on RGB, but when i changed it to PAL the PQ increased quite a bit, it looks sharper, clearer and less pixelated, why is that?
