I have a bose lifestyle 38, a sky hd+ box, a panasonic blue ray player and a sony lcd tv (new).
Currently i have connected the hdmi out from Sky HD+ and Blue ray player to HDMI1 and HDMI 2 respectively on the tv.
In addition I am connecting the optical out from the blue ray and Sky hd + via a optical switch to the bose optical in. This is because lifestyle 38 has only 1 optical in and no hdmi in.

Is there a better way to conenct them
