Sky + scart/component problem.

Hi Guys looking for advice.

I currently have our bedroom screen displaying our sky hd picture from downstairs through a co-axil . The pictures not great but it does for the bedroom. I havent got round to buying an HDMI splitter so we have the main HD picture downstairs and every other screen has the rf out from the HD box.

I have another sky plus box currently collecting dust which I would also like to send to the bedroom TV , therefore allowing me to either watch the hd signal(currently through co-axil) or the sky plus signal upstairs. This allows the mrs to watch crap like "what katie did next" upstairs , and i can watch hd downstairs, or we can both watch the HD Signal upstairs.

Okay so heres the problem .

Whe I did the install I wasnt so clued up and wired to the bedroom tv an HDMI cable (which I will use eventually once splitter purchased) , a component cable , 2 cat5s and 2 co-axils.

The sky Plus box has a scart output and an s-video output . I dont have a scart cable at the TV so I was hoping I could use an Scart to Component Adaptor Component YUV RGB Scart Adapter Only £6.84 at TVCables to send the signal from sky to TV.

Heres where I'm stuck , I read that the component wont carry sound ? IS this correct ? School boy error on my part if this is the case as I said Fairly new to this .

If so is there any other relatively cheap solution with the cables in place ?

The Sky plus picture doesnt have to be great quality and sound doesnt have to be stereo .

Thanks Guys .

Hi there, I'm afraid there is no way at all of making a component cable carry sound.

The only options you have are routing another cable for sound or if your TV and Sky box support sound over it, use HDMI.

Re: Sky + scart/component problem.

Do you have another LNB output from your Sky dish to connect to this other sky box? If so, why don't you fit the Sky box in the bedroom and run a cable from the LNB (you should have a quad LNB on your dish) to the bedroom and use this Sky box exclusively in the bedroom?

Re: Sky + scart/component problem.

Yeah I have an additional LNB from the dish so the I'm paying for the sky + also.

I have every screen in our house recessed into the walls with all hardware situated in a cupboard upstairs , so I cant place the sky plus box in our room unfortunatly.

I have a few drawn wires in place so I guess I could route another cable , what would I use with the component then just a standard phono cable ?

Anyway of using the co-axil or cat 5 for sound and component for video ? or more hassle than worth ?

Thanks again , Jamie .

Cant believe I thought components carried sound

Re: Sky + scart/component problem.

You could get cat5 extenders (see tmfsolutions, hdcable and Lindy) so if the distance between the two rooms is large, using cat5/6 for extending the HDMI output from a splitter to the second TV might work better than HDMIOnce you get over 15m, you can have issues with HDMI as it was never designed for long distances. Check the cables forum and cat5 and HDMI subforums, they're the best place to post this sort of question.
