Hi everyone,
I have a Playstation 3, a Sony
KDL 40V4000 TV and I am considering buying a
Sony DAV-DZ260 5.1 Home Cinema system.
As far as I know, my PS3 has an optical output and the Home Cinema system has an optical input. This should be a piece of cake. However, I would also like to have my TV running through the surround system, even if it's not in 5.1 (I have freeview). I believe my TV has an optical output too. Would it be possible to connect them all in the following way?
PS3 -> TV via HDMI
Cinema System -> TV via HDMI
TV -> Cinema System via Optical Output
Would that work? If not, what are the alternatives? I would rather not use a splitter.
Thanks for any advice you have.
EDIT: It looks like that Sony DAV-DZ260 model is totally discontinued and the
replacement does not have any optical inputs!

Perhaps this will have to go on the back burner for a bit.
