Video Sending Help & Introduction

Hi, have been lurking on here for a good while so thanks for the info upto now hooooooowever

I am in need of a solution:

I have a client/friend who wants a bit of an odd setup at his home/office, basically he has a PC with 2 x 32" LCD monitors attached and a further 32" screen (which he is yet to buy so can be altered) on the wall, he wants to be able to switch the image on his pc to the screen on the wall as well as being able to watch sky on that TV, not at the same time though, it also if its possible needs to be able to cope if he emplys another guy to work from his house to have another PC that can send its desktop etc to the wall mounted TV, again not at the same time.

Obviously he can have a VGA cable in a wall socket and manually alter the image to be duplicated onto the wall, however money isnt such an issue and he doesnt like technology, and wants things neat so i was wondering if wireless video would be better or ip video?

Would the wall mounted TV need to have certain compatibility?

What equipment could i potentially need to do this?

Would i be better off getting a third party involved?

Ta
Steve

Re: Video Sending Help & Introduction

I don't know of any wireless or IP solutions so will leave that to someone else to comment on. I would suggest an HDMI matrix switch but obviously this would rely on the PCs having DVI or HDMI outputs. If they're desktop PCs, they more than likely have DVI out but if not, upgrading the graphics card wouldn't cost that much. Does he want sky on all screens or just the one? Sky+HD would be required (HDMI).

This could be relatively straightforward if everything shares the same output connection but if not, it could get complicated and expensive.

Re: Video Sending Help & Introduction

thanks for the reply there, the Sky would just be on the one wall mounted TV and possibly another one elsewhere in the house, the two pc's can certainly have DVI outs on them and the TV could have multiple DVI or i assume HDMI inputs, i have a DVI to HDMI converter,

costly isnt a problem, just needs to work flawlessly

Re: Video Sending Help & Introduction

The HDMI matrix solution should work fine. What sky box is it?

Re: Video Sending Help & Introduction

sky+HD, which ideally they want to share between two TV's in the house, tho showing the same picture/sound is fine on both, it will just be news, any advice on how to do this would also be fantastic, ive not looked at the back of the box but i assume another splitter may work?

If we got graphics cards with HDMI out is there anyway we could send the sound through the matrix splitter aswell?

Re: Video Sending Help & Introduction

You should be able to hook the Sky+HD box up to the matrix as well. Look for one with 4 inputs and 4 outputs, i.e. 3 PCs and the Sky+HD box. If the GPU's have HDMI (with audio) output, then yes, the audio will be output to the TVs via the matrix. The HDMI section within the cables subforum should be able to offer more suggestions.
