Post Panasonic Th42px80b, PS3 and a Philips HTS3164/05 system

Hi all,

I've read posts but as yet cannot see an answer to my conundrum...any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a Panasonic Th42px80b, a Philips HTS3164/05 system and recently I've bought a PS3. Ideally I would like to be able to get surround sound from the PS3 to the Cinema system. I was wondering if there was any way to use the Tv to send sound via the hdmi cable from the ps3 to the home cinema system as there is only one hdmi slot on the cinema system, although 3 on the tv. Therefore, connect ps3 to Tv via hdmi and use another hdmi cable to connect the TV to the cinema system. There are no optical outputs/inputs on either the TV or cinema system and I understand I could use standard audio cables to get pseudo-surround sound. Any solution to get proper surround using this setup would be great.

Thanks for your advice

I'm afraid that won't work. The HDMI connections on the TV are inputs to take the audio/video from a source e.g. your Philips home cinema system. If the only inputs on the Philips are analogue phono (red/white), I would connect a phono cable from the TV to the Philips. It won't be true surround sound but it's the best you'll get.

Thanks for your speedy response- I thought that might be the case I'd just hoped of a lucky alternative.

Cheers Davepuma for your help
