JBL Creature speaker and Pioneer VSX1017

Long story short, i'm currently without an active sub for my home cinema set-up and don't have the money to fund a new one at the moment.

I do however, have a set of JBL Creature speakers - which has an active sub.

Should it be possible to hook the JBL sub up to the subwoofer output on my pioneer amp and use it (without it's small speakers) as a sub for the moment?

The connection being a phono to 3.5mm jack.

Or is this an ill educated assumption that simply will not work?

It might work but you would need a host of adapters. Sorry I don't know what connections the JBL sub has so can't confirm what cables/adapters you would need. However, you have to ask yourself if it would be worth it. It's not a true active subwoofer and I'm sure the frequency range of it would be pretty poor. I would allocate the bass to your fronts and do without a subwoofer until you can afford a good one and not risk damaging either the JBL or amp. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't but is it worth the risk for some bass, which your main speakers can probably handle better?
