Apple TV on two TV's?

Hi all,

I've come up with a plan, that in theory (my theory at least ) should work.

I'll soon be sorting out a TV for the bedroom (haven't had one in there since mopving in a year ago ) and would love to be able to access my Apple TV from it.

The ATV would be situated downstairs, on the main TV in the lounge.

I'm thinking i should just be able to get a HDMI Splitter and run two HDMI cables (one to lounge TV, and one to Bedroom TV) and then hey presto, it would work.
I'm not bothered about not being able to watch/listen to things individually on each TV (as i realise each HDMI cable would be carrying the same thing from the ATV) so thats no problem.

What if i wanted to run optical for audio - i assume i could just run a similiar setup and use an optical splitter, then a cable to each TV/AMP??

Can anyone see any reason why this wouldn't work?

Oh, and before anybody says about controlling the ATV from the bedroom - both me and the wife use the Remote App on our iPhone's, so thats no problem, as we'd always be within the WiFi range.

Using an optical splitter might degrade the signal and optical over long lengths can be a bit hit and miss. I seriously doubt your TV has an optical input but obviously check.

You can extend digital audio over cat5 etc. (see separate forum within the cabling section). Example. Joe Fernand is a helpful chap and he should be able to offer more advice.

yeah, optical would go to the neccessary equipment (i.e. Amp)

didn't think of the CAT5 options, probably easier for me as i'll be running CAT5 in that direction anyway

How about spltting the HDMI signal? Any issues with that?

HDMI was never designed to be ran over long lengths but again, to get around this limitation, you can use cat5/6 baluns. Again, see the separate forum.

I use a splitter with a 1m and 5m cable on the output for my TV and projector with no issues. However, HDMI isn't black and white. What works for one, might not for another. The cat5/6 balun setup should ensure it is passed over a long distance with no issues. How long will the run be?

Have you checked out the forum on cat5/6 systems?
