Re: Sony BDVE300 5.1 and iPOD video issue

Please can you post a link to the online manual? Ipod compatibility can be complex esp. with the latest gen of ipods.

I'm just guessing here but have you tried connecting a composite video cable (Yellow RCA) from the Sony to your TV as perhaps the Sony doesn't convert the video input and the composite cable is required for the video. Try it and post back.

Hi I have the same system and was in the same boat as you and after some searching around I found out that the dock they supply you with does not do video and it is the next model up that you need.I found this very misleading myself as it does imply that it does do video and they supply you with a lead to do so.

watching videos with the ipod does not really bother me,what I would have liked is to be able to see my artists and tracklistings on the tv so I could scroll through them with the remote instead of walking over to the tv where the ipod is and having to look on the ipod and end up using the clickwheel, just seems a bit pointless been able to control the ipod with the remote unless I invest in a pair of binoculars

You NEED RCA Video

I've just bought the BDV-E300 this past week and when I tried the ipod dock with both my touch and iphone 3GS I got the same problem with video. I re-read the manual for the dock and it does state that the video output from the ipod is composite, so when watching a blu-ray/dvd etc the TV source is HDMI when using the ipod dock the TV source has to be AV. A bit annoying as it means you have two different video connections to the TV and you have to remember to swap when select the source. The quality of videos from the ipod is very good thought so overall I'm happy.

EREWARD has hit the nail on the head here. I had the same problem initially, however it dawned on me that in manual it stated that to get video out of the ipod dock i had to have the yellow video lead connected, which i had, however i had not switched the input on the TV to the AV input to pick up the video signal. Once i did this, it worked a treat - i have tried this on a couple of ipod nanos (the latest generation and the one before that) and a brand new 3rd generation touch and they all work fine - you do need to ensure that the video output on the ipod is also to tou output a PAL signal.

Hi Leemarshall,

yes mate, i used the yellow video lead that came with the Sony player connected into the 'video out' of the BDV-E300 and just plugged the ipod into the dock that came with the unit. As i mentioned above, you must also make sure that the ipod is set to TV OUT otherwise it will not transmit a video signal.

Does it only transmit videos?, or does track data also appear on the TV screen? I've just plugged my iPhone in but no joy? I don't have any videos as yet though

It only transmits videos. I was under the impression it would display the track listings on the tv and then you could see which tracks you wanted to play but it doesn't. Not really spent all this money on a bluray player to watch films through an ipod so seems a bit pointless to me
