Evening gents
firstly please let me say i am a complete newbie and have tried reading up as much as i can , but all that has achieved is to make my very small and confused brain even more confused!
I already have a panasonic pt550 cinema system and on tuesday i will be picking up a panasonic g10 plasma, i also have sky+ sd(soon to be HD)
Please, what leads ect. do i need,and how do i connect it up?
Any advice will be greatfully recieved

I'd connect it like this:

PT550 --HDMI--> TV
Sky+HD --HDMI--> TV
Sky+HD --Optical--> PT550

Optical is an audio cable which will carry audio from the Sky+HD box into your sound system, allowing you to get 5.1 audio from Sky (when it's broadcast of course).

While you're still using Sky+, all you should have to change from the above connections is the Sky to TV connection. As Sky+ doesn't have HDMI out, just connect it with a scart cable.

The Sky+HD box comes with an HDMI cable, so you'll probably only need to buy one HDMI and one optical cable.

Got its all set up and it worked superbly thanks to stevies help, however i do have another question.
I have sky connected to the cinema system via a optical cable, but i would also like to connect to the cinema system from the TV via optical as well, the cinema system only has one input, is it possble to use some kind of splitter?

It's possible to use an optical splitter in reverse, but there's no guarantee that it will work.

Ideally, an optical switch is what you need. The cheapest option would be to get a manual one like this:

TOSLink Switch - Digital Audio Optical Switch Only £7.82 at TVCables

You'll need 3 optical cables in total of course for this to work - one each for TV & Sky to the switch, then antoher for the switch to the sound system.
