Question Home Cinema Dilemma

Hi Folks, Am a novice on the Home Cinema circuit and am sure this question is asked every day but am looking to enhance the sound from my Bravia TV on a budget. I have two options in mind and wondered which 'you experts' think would give me the best experience. Both products are 2.1Ch, so appreciate neither will be awe inspiring but one is the Bose Cinemate and the other is Sony HT-FS3.

My TV only has 1 HDMI and no Digital Optical output (only phono). The Sony HT system seems to have better compatability, as I could easily wire my PS3 through the amp and into the Bravia TV via HDMI - jone done ! I assume the Bose system would offer superior quality however it only receives phono or Digital Optical inputs and I am concerned I may comrosmise the quality of the signal by using an analog connection.

I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice , many thanks in advance.

Re: Home Cinema Dilemma

If you're looking at a 2.1 system with a degree of future-proofing, I would suggest the Onkyo HTX-22HD. It will accept HD audio from your PS3 when decoded by the PS3 and output as LPCM. The Sony system you linked to also accepts LPCM from the PS3. Do you have anything else to connect? I am not a fan of Bose at all, it's very overpriced for what you get, which isn't a lot. Their kit isn't particularly well made either, so don't buy without a demo would be my advice.

The Onkyo system I mentioned can also be made into a 5.1 system by purchasing the 3 other speakers (rears and centre). I'm not sure if the Sony system can.

Do a search on the systems on the forum to see if anyone has bought one. The Onkyo system is popular.

Thanks for the advice, Dave. I am considering throwing a DVD Recorder into the mix at some point, although at the moment it's just the PS3.
