Re: Connecting up PS3 to surround sound?

A quick google reveals your system has both optical and digi-coax inputs but that was from a fellow owner. If it does indeed have optical, connect the PS3 to the h/c system via an optical cable (Fisual pro at £5 gets my vote) and set the PS3 to output audio over optical in the audio/sound settings and to bitstream in the BD/DVD settings (it should be by default). Then select the optical input on the remote, probably by cycling through the audio inputs.

Can you confirm which inputs/connections it has?

Re: Connecting up PS3 to surround sound?

Please confirm the sound settings you have entered and confirm it is set to bitstream?

On mine, under sound settings > optical, I have the following boxes ticked:

Dolby Digital 5.1 Ch.
DTS 5.1 Ch.
AAC
Linear PCM 2 Ch. 44.1KHz
Linear PCM 2 Ch. 48 kHz

Under video settings > BD Audio Output Format (Optical Digital) ensure it is set to Bitstream

Did you select the optical input on the home cinema system? Look for something like D.In or D-In or similar.

Is there light emitting from the end of the optical cable? Check with it connected to the PS3 only (obviously).

Re: Connecting up PS3 to surround sound?

You need to check the optical when it's connected to the source i.e. the PS3 not when it's connected to the input as nothing will emit from there.

Your home cinema system will be configured by default to play DVDs from it's built in player. In order to select an external source, you will need to select this external input via the remote or the front panel. Can you confirm that you have cycled through the various inputs?

Re: Connecting up PS3 to surround sound?

Are you saying you can hear the TV audio through the philips when connected via optical?

Can you visit the philips website support section and post a link to the manual?

It should be a button the remote, not in the settings (if everything is configured correctly).

Re: Connecting up PS3 to surround sound?

I'm afraid I have bad news......

I downloaded the manual from here:

http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/d...51_dfu_eng.pdf

The optical and digi-coax connections are outputs to an external decoder i.e. amp/receiver.

Therefore you will not get surround sound from your PS3 with this particular system.

Re: Connecting up PS3 to surround sound?

Hmm, probably not. The speakers are designed to be used with that player. There are a host of variables that it would depend on. Is the subwoofer active (powered)? Does it have an RCA phono input? What is the impedance rating of the speakers (ohms)? Do they have standard speaker connections or RCA phono connections to the sub?

Personally I would sell it on and start afresh.
