2nd TV connection problem

Hi, I don't know if this is the correct forum but I can't see to find the most appropriate arena for this as it is probably quite low-tech!

I have a mac-mini hooked up to 50" plasma via HDMI and a Virgin+ box also hooked up to the TV via the other HDMI slot - also a vhs video recorder hooked up to AV1.

Now what I would like to do is be able to essentially mirror everything that appears on the plasma to a standard lcd tv in the conservatory ...... can I do this?? I currently have some co-ax running from conservatory tv through to lounge tv but that doesn't seem to work ......

Any pointers would be most gratefully received!

Re: 2nd TV connection problem

I would forget about the VCR and consider using an HDMI matrix splitter (see hdcable.co.uk) to spit the V+ & Mac Mini to the two TVs. An AV Receiver with 2 HDMI outputs would also work (often these don't output to both at the same time though) but they're expensive. The Marantz SR6004 is about the cheapest at £700. It could also convert the VCR's composite video output to HDMI. This feature is known as video conversion or 'upconversion'. A cheaper receiver e.g. Denon 1610 (£330) plus HDMI splitter (£30) could also work and pass all 3 devices to both TVs.

How far away is the second TV from the main setup? HDMI isn't ideal for long distances as it was never designed for it. If the distance is >15m, there are workarounds e.g. Cat5/6 balun networking. Check the cables forums for more details.

Re: 2nd TV connection problem

Thanks - I'm not particularly concerned re the VCR - the 2nd TV is about 10m away and just has a co-ax input and it was this that I wanted to connect - so I thought to the TV to get whatever was on the screen - I guess this is not possible and as you suggest the best way is to split it - I'm not overly concerned - just thought it would be good if it was possible - certainly not a £700 problem!! Thanks for your reply though - much appreciated!
