Samsung HTX720 - Connecting to current set-up help?

Have recently purchased the Samsung HTX-720 system via dixons. While I wait on its delivery I would like to sort out any additional leads/connections I will need.

At the moment I have -
Samsung 40" Series 6 LCD
Samsung Sky+HD box - connected with belkin HDMI
Sony PS3 - connected with belkin HDMI
Nintendo Wii - connected with nintendo component cables

When I set up the htx-720 i would like to use it whilst watching the skyHD, gaming and blu-rays on the ps3, as well as whilst watching dvds through the systems player.

Can anyone advise me the best solution to my requirements please?

Thanks in advance

I had a quick look on pricerunner and the specs say it has 1 x optical input. Therefore you will need a 3 way manual optical switch. Connect the PS3, Sky+HD and TV to the switch via optical cables (3) and then run a single optical cable to the input on the Samsung. The TV should pass audio from its tuner and also the wii, which if you haven't already done so, should be connected to the TV via the optional Nintendo component cable (green/blue/red + red/white audio) as it offers better picture quality.

Thanks for that mate. Can u tell me if running everything through the splitter/switch will diminish the quality of the sound a lot. I realise its a relatively cheap system but im still hoping for an good end-product!

Already have the wii linked up with the component cable by the way

It shouldn't do but ultimately it's your only option. You can get powered versions for around £30. Audiovisualonline and so on should be able to sort you out. They stock the Fisual Pro optical cable, which is my recommendation. They cost £5 and are identical to a QED Cable I have costing considerably more and they fit well and ultimately work!

Re: Samsung HTX720 - Connecting to current set-up help?

Thanks for ur help, much appreciated.

Can I just run this past you quickly to make sure ive got the jist of what ur saying.

- Connect TV to Cinema system, skyhd and ps3 with HDMi cable
- Connect Cinema system to a 'switch' with and optical cable.
- Connect SkyHD and PS3 to 'switch' with seperate optical cables

That sound about right? please excuse my ignorance...

Re: Samsung HTX720 - Connecting to current set-up help?

Yes. The specs at pricerunner didn't mention an analogue audio connection, hence why I said to route the wii via the TV and connect the TV's optical audio output to the switch as well.

Wasnt overly fussed about having the Wii connected to the system but I guess if I have the 3 inputs switch it would be silly not to
