Help please- poblems with Sony Receiver

Hi guys, i,ve been lurking around the forums for quite some time now, but this is my first post.

The set-up I have is 4-5 years old now and has worked without any problems until this week.

I have the following :

Panasonic Plasma Th-42PWD6
Sony Receiver STR DB1070
Sony DVD Player S725D
Sky+
Eltax Evolution 5.2 Power Surround System

The problem that i've encountered this week is that when I turn on the receiver there is intially sound but this is followed by quite a loud bang and a message appears on the receivers display saying "protector"

I've searched through the owners manual but can't find anything in the trouble shouting guide.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
David

Re: Help please- poblems with Sony Receiver

It sounds like your amp is going into protected mode because it's either too hot or driving too much current into your speakers.

Make sure it's well ventilated, and maybe take the lid off and hoover out any dust. After that, I'd make sure there are no fine strands of wire causing a short on the speaker outputs (or at the speaker connections)... perhaps remove all connections and try adding speakers one by one.

Re: Help please- poblems with Sony Receiver

Well i've tried mbell's suggestions, but all to no avail.

It's looking like a new amp/receiver as I can't get any sound at all now.

Cheers,
David
