Sony HDX995 to SKY HD Help needed please.

OK so i am going insame, why cant sky have lept forwards and built in a dvd drive to the already perfect sky hd box! I tell you why its to give men all over the world headaches.

I am trying to hook up a Sony HDX995 to my Pace Sky HD box.

Current connections i have together are

Scart 1 out from sky hd to sony line one Decoder

Scart 2 from sony to Samsung tv.

Thats all i have so far, i though that the interface from the sky box would just sync up to the recorder but no. I have tv picture from the sony 995 but i am completely baffled to how i get the sky box to interface with the 995.

Is there a ultimate set up guide?

aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh
Thanks for reading..

Re: Sony HDX995 to SKY HD Help needed please.

What does "interface with the 995" mean? The Sky HD box has no idea what a Sony HDX995 is, and certainly can't interface with one.

What it can do is send the channel it is currently tuned to (or the planner entry that it is currently playing) out through its HDMI connection, both its scart connections, both its RF connections and its s-video connection. So, if you want to record the Sky box's output you can connect various recording equipment (VCRs, DVDRs, PCs, hard drive recorders) to the various outputs on the Sky box.

If you want to archive things from your Sky box to your DVD recorder (either disc or hard drive) then select the channel - or the planner entry - that you want to record on the Sky box, select the correct AV input (AV1?) on the DVDR, press record when the programme you want to record starts. Press stop when it finishes.

And do you know that this works? With a Sky HD box? The Sky box has no idea what a Sony HDX995 is - but the Sony DVDR may claim to know what a Sky box is. Though whether it actually works or not is another matter. And whether it works with a Sky HD box or not is another matter still.

There was once a Samsung TV which claimed that its remote control could be used to control a Sky HD box - but it couldn't!

No thats why i am here. Other user experiencs are often more helpful than a manufacturers instruction booklet.

Re: Sony HDX995 to SKY HD Help needed please.

I've just downloaded and skimmed through the manual for this DVD recorder - there is no mention anywhere in it of being able to control a Sky box. It does mention Guideplus being able to work with generic satellite boxes - but only from the point of view of you setting your satellite box to the channel that you want to record, connecting it to the DVD recorder, and either pressing record when the programme starts, or manually setting the timer to start recording when the programme you want to transfer to DVD is about to start. Which is what you would do with a DVD recorder which didn't support Guideplus.

It is unlikely to be able to access Sky's EPG - I don't know of any external hard drive/DVD recorder which can offer you Sky's EPG and allow you to record from that. Sky wouldn't allow any DVD manufacturer to be able to do it - they have spent a lot of time and money in developing their EPG, they won't just let anybody copy it. Freesat boxes may. The DVDR wouldn't be able to make the Sky box switch satellite channels anyway. Your best bet is to record to the Sky+ HD hard drive, then, at a later date, archive from the Sky hard drive to your Sony's hard drive (and ultimately to DVD disc) - in which case, you won't be using Guideplus at all.

Re: Sony HDX995 to SKY HD Help needed please.

Is there any other way of outputting video from my sky HD box to my 995, USB etc. I am a teacher and just need to put things on disc occasionally

Re: Sony HDX995 to SKY HD Help needed please.

As already explained - connect the two together using a scart cable. Select the correct input on the Sony (AV1). Press play on the Sky box. Press record on the DVDR. The output from the Sky box will be recorded on the hard drive (or DVD disc) on the Sony. Press stop on the Sony when the programme you are recording has finished. If archiving to DVD disc, finalise the disc. The disc will then be playable in any DVD player.

Re: Sony HDX995 to SKY HD Help needed please.

The scart cable between sky and Sony is not securely connected at each end. Or you've not configured the Sony to recognise the Sky input (i.e. you've left it set to decoder on). Or you've got the Sky connected to the Sony's output socket rather than it's input socket. Or you've not selected the correct input source on the Sony. Or the Sony isn't connected to the TV. Or you've got the TV connected to the Sony input socket rather than it's output socket. Or the scart cable between Sony and TV is not securely connected at each end. Or you've not selected the correct input on the TV. Could be any of those.
