Home Cinema 'DIY SOS' - Floating Wall

Anyone see last nights 'DIY SOS' episode?

They've even jumped on the bandwagon of floating walls from snellfish's original idea!

I've got some pics I can upload, although not great as they are camera phone pics from a paused source.

They also used textured MDF sheets to create a 'textured wall' which looked fantastic - sort of ripples in the sand effect

Cheers

G

Re: Home Cinema 'DIY SOS' - Floating Wall

I thought it was much better than the 'cinema room' on Grand Designs the other week....an all white room with big windows. They always seem to do a good job on DIY SOS, with all the plastering, wiring, etc, unlike the 1/2 day makeover rubbish that was 'Changing rooms'. I'd have loved for DIY SOS to come and do my house (not that I deserve it, just it would have been nice ) as it's taken me 8 years to get it straight, but at least I did it and I only trashed one room at a time.

Re: Home Cinema 'DIY SOS' - Floating Wall

Of course you could always take the dvd shelves off the side of this and then bolt it to the wall for the grand sum of £43........

Re: Home Cinema 'DIY SOS' - Floating Wall

Just watched this.

Could have done with less "Apple Bobbing" and more on the construction side.

Is it just me,or are they spending less screen time on the actual work and more on the messing around sillyness?

Nice result though.

I agree, but TBH there's only so many shots of them mixing plaster and applying it that I can take.....it's enough to know that they are doing this (and therefore a 'proper' job). IMHO they also spoiled the 'reveal' by showing bits of the finshed room at the start of the show; where they were explaining what they were going to do. Have we really become such an impatient audience that we can't wait to the end to see what it looks like?

I usually watch it for Nick Knowles as he makes me laugh! It is more of a light hearted DIY program then most though

Re: Home Cinema 'DIY SOS' - Floating Wall

I'm sure i have a link to a supplier of those MDF sheets at home somewhere, they are manufactured by a Chinese company iirc. One of my local restaurants has them as panels on the wall to help acoustics. Or the swedish alternative can be found here.

According to the DIY SOS forum the textured MDF is Reed-300 from Fourth Dimension. Looks like it's around £170 for a 2500mm x 1250mm panel. n Dimensions standard range of 3D patterned surfaces produced from routing

The wallpaper is Cow Parsley 70/6013 by Cole and Sons.

Re: Home Cinema 'DIY SOS' - Floating Wall

Nice find cw2k,

They do A4 samples for only £15 as well, might have a look at that, they were a bit funky!

From the site.....
"Samples – A4 (nominal) unlacquered samples of each design can be ordered at a cost of £15.00 ea., inclusive of packing, delivery and VAT"

textured panels

I also sat up and thought wow that textured wall is cool, there's loads of choices out there for walls. a company called mobilia do something similar (www.mobilia.ltd.uk) in fact they do loads of different styles haven't got any prices yet.
Also there are other companies that do something similar but instead of good old MDF they make it from plaster, they do one that does look like wind blown sand as well as something similar to the one that was on the show which they call bamboo. Very cool I've been earching for something to use as a fature wall in my gaff, but at £170 a sheet that makes my feature wall cost something like £850. GULP!!!!
