Paint Decorating Tips for my Dedicated Room

hey guys.

i have recently moved house, (back to the Parents house.. ouch!) and have had to move my home cinema with me. my old room can be found here if you want to take a look

My First Home Cinema

anyway. my new room is a dedicated room. its a converted loft. its alot smaller than my old room and i also have to cram my PC in here too

its a tight squeese as you can see! the projector screen blocks the doorway when down!

this room is still work in progress... please ignore the rubish plinth for the infocus projector!

i desperatly want to redecorate it and transform it into a really nice place to chill out, game and watch movies.. ive put blackout blinds in so far, all i need to do is repaint the room and re-carpet if i have to. on that subject i REALLY want to get rid of the horrible blue carpet there but its gonna take some convincing from my parents! it really sucks living with your parents when youve had your own house for 8 years lol.

anyway can everyone please suggest colour schemes and lighting ideas to me?

i currently have a simple home easy automation system controling the lights.

cheers for reading guys

Re: Paint Decorating Tips for my Dedicated Room

I know what you mean about moving back in with your parents as I had to do the same for a year after I came back home from working in South Africa. I was about 32 then and hadn't lived with them for 15 years! Nightmare!

Do you really need to re-decorate the room? How long do you plan to live there? Surely its just a temp situation and in the long run a waste of your cash?

Personally if the carpet offended me so much I would buy a large rug to put in front of the TV/PJ screen and maybe a couple of long carpet runners to the sides. At least you could then take them with you when you move out. And how much time do you spend looking at the carpet while watching a film or while gaming?

The only other thing I would suggest is to work out a way to hang some large curtains from the ceiling behind the TV and a way to keep them open right to the walls (maybe with some small hooks at the widest point of the room)

But if you're still wanting to decorate whats your style and budget?

Re: Paint Decorating Tips for my Dedicated Room

hello and thankyou for the reply!

well my cinema kit is going to be living there for at least 2-3 years. im going for a new career in aviation so will be moving to Oxford next year but will be back here on weekends and holidays... once i qualify as a pilot ill be living back at my rents until i find a job which can take a long time, so the short answer is yes i will be living here a while!

im deffo redecorating as i allready have the equipment and plenty of paint. i redecorated my entire house on my own before renting it out. so money isnt a problem. re carpeting the room wont break the bank. and yes the carpet offends me lol!

ive allready spent quite alot on this room allready on the velux blackout blinds. without those the room would be useless in the summer for home cinema!

so as ive spent some money allready, i might as well make the best of the room ive got. im not going to spend thousands, i just want to give the walls a new lick of paint and re-carpet the floor..

i was thinking of going for a clean modern style so was thnking of redoing the floor with a cream carpet, painting the walls white, and painting the small wall behind the projector a diff colour.

what do you think?
