Question Help: Help: Projector Cables in Ceiling: best quick way?

Hi.

I am in the middle of a loft conversion and our builders are ahead of themselves(!). This would be great, except that it means the plasterboard ceiling is now being installed this coming Monday and I won't get the long HDMI cable I require for a ceiling mount in time (I only saw the loft space last week).

I think I, therefore, have 3 options:
  1. Install 32mm flexible (plastic?) conduit with draw wire inside
  2. Install 2xCat 5e cable
    1. HDMI over Cat5e plus Component->HDMI adapters, etc.
  3. Cry
I welcome your opinions on options (1) and (2) and any alternative suggestions you have.

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve.

P.S. Having the cables visible (or even trunking) is not an option - I would be shot!

Why not do 1 and 2 ?

Cat5E is pretty cheap but the converters can be expensive and potentially untidy.

If you have any problem pulling through the HDMI then you could use the CAT5E.

Whichever you do use, the other may come in handy for anything unforseen in the future . . .

regards

Brian

Re: Help: Help: Projector Cables in Ceiling: best quick way?

Hi Steve

As they say "Welcome to my world" ive been going through exactly the same thing, no doubt you have found that builders & AV wiring dont seem to equate. I do have a heck of a lot of cable in my conversion, but I have to keep stressing to them that they must not bend kink or cut any of my cables I must p**s them off at times

They were desperate to board the floor & I still had the Cat5 & Speaker cables to run, it was a mad panic & took longer than expected, luckly they have been a bit slower in boarding the walls & ceiling so I have managed to get a HDMI Cable to the projector & Bed/TV

If I were you I would stick some large trunking in & a draw wire. I have used square drain pipe in the past this allows you to get scarts(not that any of us use them now do we ) mains plugs, vga cables & hdmi cables through with ease. At the end of the day the channel will be covered so it dosent matter what you use just make it big enough. I dont have an experiance with Cat5 & HDMI convertors but sounds expensive to me.

Cheers
Stu
