[II Architect II]

Hi,

I have just bought a 40" Samsung and I'm looking to wall mount it.

Problem is, the only wall suitable is the stud wall that seperates the kitchen/livingroom and I am concerned about my new precious tv and how safe it will be one their.

Do you think it will hold and what is the best way to mount it.

I'm sure I read that there is a guy on the forums who sells TV mounts - does anyone know who so I could contact them?

My plan is (since we have a pesky radiator we cant remove) to have my 2.1 speakers on the floor, my consoles sunk part way into the wall (with an overhanging shelf) and to have the tv wall mounted above all this lot.

This is my very arty plan :P

Obviously I have concerns about the heat inside the wall and have no clue about how best to tackle this (or even if it will work)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

RS100 and DekoMount are 2 that spring to mind, here.

Is this radiator located on the same wall as the TV? What's stopping you from removing it?

The section containing the consoles will be open, I was going to sink the tv in a bit too however with all my cables that are in the back, there isnt that much room so I just plan to mount it straight onto the stud work.

well i used the metal plaster board fixings in my plaster board thats hanging a lg 50" plasma.. works well for me...
i also use them for mounting radiators heavier than most tv's..seeing as i'm a heating engineer..

i know i weigh more than my tv does and i hung off the wall mounted bracket.
going nowhere... didn't hit any stud work either..

i have used universal mounting brackets on both my tv's and work well too. about £20 off ebay..
(i used 6 fixings in each bracket)

I'm wondering how best to connect it all in since my tv power cable wont stretch to the wall socket. Maybe move the wall socket since im ripping the wall apart or something else?

Going to have quite a few things top plug in!

Make the mess once and get it the way you want it.

And I'd respectfully reiterate the advice about supporting woodwork to lock the TV onto. Plasterboards aren't designed for supporting that sort of weight.

Absolutely, I'd never plan to mount it just into plasterboard, I'm taking the livingroom side of the wall down so I'll see where everything is.

Obviously I'll put it firmly into the joists but if possible, is also putting it into the noggins overkill? and I'm thinking of sinking in some speakers but not sure whether thismay cause more noise/vibration? otherwise they'll just be sat on the floor which is wooden (guess that'll be bad anyway).

You would be better off with noggins as the studs tend to be around 400mm apart. If you know which bracket you are going for, just buy it so you can position it on the stud work to determine whereabouts and how much additional support will be needed.

I still need to contact some forum members who sell brackets - not really sure whats the best for my needs yet.

Havent got any speakers yet, I'm thinking about the onkyo htx22HD, but If I dont buy that, I'll probably not buy anything at all.

Do you reckon there's going to be quite a lot of heat in that 'shelf' area as it were, where all the consoles and sky are going?

Just wondering whether there is anything I can do - maybe make the area for everything to fit in slightly bigger?

Have you considered hosting the equipment on a Hi-Fi/AV rack, so its to one side? Is there a particular need for a shelf area, especially as it will be permanent?

Well the chances of it going on the wall (both tv and consoles) has dwindled.

The dividing wall is very thin, and as I had my plastering friends round today to price the job up, there just isnt enough depth to do any good for the console shelf idea.

The tv -could- still go on the wall, but it's still going to cost me a fair bit to get a sparky to put more sockets in and get the plasterboard patched up.

I had considered the unit rack yes, it's just I'm one of these people who are very particular about things and would prefer it to be central and symetrical.

The whole idea in the first place was to conserve floor space, but it doesn't look like its going to happen.

If I wasn't having such trouble finding the exact tv unit I wanted, this idea would never have got as far as it has (I'm after a unit thats slightly longer than my tv but more importantly is very shallow to conserve space, theirs plenty of long units about but the shallowness is a different ball game).

I've tried all over, Argos, Ikea etc but just can't find something shallow enough (30-40cm) with space underneath for the consoles.

My initial concern with having a tv unit was the heat coming off the radiators onto the tv and consoles.

What about something like this? It is 400mm deep, fits within your specification.

1...depends on how thick your plasterboard is? most are at least 12mm thick..
2...i have 2 50" plasmas hanging on my plaster board walls with no noggins and they are fine.... i bet my 50" weighs more than your tv...
3... use the correct fittings for the wall type....
4..... i hung a 1600 x 600 double panel double convector rad on the wall last week that was fixed in to plaster board and it holds the weight no probs...

my risk i know but from my point of view it is fine. i should know both my tv's are on plasterboard...

and besides most noggins do not start in the middle of a wall they are normally about 12" apart.... how ever as ya knocking the wall down what does it matter

Thanks for the suggestion.

It's got to be light wood to match my furnishings.

Something like the 'Lack' table from ikea, just not as deep.

I've been searching for months with no luck, Its that kind of fairly long unit that will give me plenty of space underneath too.

400mm is definately my max depth for the unit

Have you looked at the long wall mounted kitchen units? Like the one here.
