Diy -screen---help Req

hi guys,
my first pj arrives on tuesday (panny ae200)

i am going to project a 8ft widescreen image and thought about building my own screen

i was thinking of using dry/wipe board as i can cut it out at work on the cnc/router to whatever size i need

problem is that the material is a shiny white and looking at the diy screens in here it seems that a mat surface is the best to project onto?

so would i have to paint it?

if so whats the best colour to go for? as we also have a sprayshop so could get it sprayed at work

or is this a non starter?

all advise much appreciated

I built a wooden frame with a center brace, and then stretched blackout cloth over it. It's only 7ft wide, but cost £28 for all the parts. I've since replaced the cloth with 1.2 gain screen material, which cost £102.

I got the wood (69mm x 18mm x 2.7m) from B&Q, and the white blackout cloth from Alders, but any curtain shop should be able to suply it. It comes in 54" widths and is sold by the yard or meter.

Search for DRH or Harkness Hall for pukka screen material. I'd try the BO cloth first, just to make sure your screen size is OK.

Pics on my website if you're interested.

Gary.

I would say yes, as using a gloss can produce hot spotting.

is this screen to be permanently mounted?

If so, could you not just paint, using a suitable shade, directly onto the wall instead of going to the expense of buying screen material?

screen is going in living room, so unfortunately a 8x4 black border on the wall, wouldn't go down to well
