Piano Black Panels?

Hi Guys

Anyone know where I can buy some sheets of Piano Black panels from?

I built an AV cabinet the other week but think it would look alot better if I could stick some sheets of Piano Black material on the doors. I am looking for something similar to a veneer or or just a sheet that I can stick on with some wood glue.

I tried a goodle search but that didnt bring up anything useful. Anyone have any experiences with buying something like this?

Can a Mod maybe move this to the Home Cinema DIY section, it might be better off there?

Jim

I`ll see what I can come up with but you could always paint the Monolith when it arrives to match the cabinet.

Re: Piano Black Panels?

If you know anyone that's handy with a spray gun, you could whack a couple of coast of black spray paint on it followed by a few coast of High Gloss lacquer to give it that hi gloss finish.

That brings to mind not only the ghastly smell of the contact adhesive that you had to use to stick down formica when many years ago I last used such stuff to stick down veneer and which stuff generated an entire sub-culture of drunken children .. Glue Sniffing seems to have gone out off fashion in an era of cheap alcohol .. but also the Much more ghastly smell of the paint stripper - nitromores I think it was called? - used way back when.

I'd rather just order a Cabinet ready made in Piano Black finish and sell the old cabinet.

I wonder if Ikea do them in such a finish ? Or then theres Stand and deliver who I can personally recommend and who do variations on Piano Black .. browse on their site Here ...

Spectral CL-1052 - Spectral Closed - Spectral Stands - Stand and Deliver

Of course theres no saving the determined do-it-yourselfer but I'd rather pay for a Do It By Some One Else Who Knows What The Hell He/or She is Doing Err ... though I'll admit that that doesn't scan as well as D.I.Y.

Re: Piano Black Panels?

Not sure what size the doors are on your new cabinet, but ikea do some high gloss doors used predominantly in kitchens, but they have a nice quality finish. Come in a range of sizes too, you may need to cut them but could be possible to do so in such a way that you don't see the cut edge (if the edge would be visible, try some conti edging tape painted with japlac gloss)

Re: Piano Black Panels?

If you build a unit that can easily be transporter then get it sprayed. I wanted mine sprayed but had to do to much work to it on site for that and with 2 young kids i couldnt spray it in the room

Re: Piano Black Panels?

Don't know what this stuff would be like, just a quick ebay search:

black sheet plastic 3mm, Business, Office Industrial items at low prices on eBay.co.uk

or

black sheet plastic abs, Business, Office Industrial items at low prices on eBay.co.uk

Just a thought. Not sure if it would be perfectly flat, but might be worth an email to the sellers?
