The point is, firstly, that "bandwidth" will not be an issue on a commercial site – they
want lots of traffic!

Now that
is clearly not right! You are only supposed to add pics to photo sites that
you own the copyright for. If you add pics owned by someone else, you are effectively passing them off as your own (whether that is your intention or not is irrelevant) thereby infringing copyright and certainly contravening the photo site's (legally-based) rules!
OTOH, linking directly to a firm's pic is like free publicity for them, as anyone can follow the URL and view their website – and that is my second point – that is what they have the images there for after all!!!
Consequently, IMO, applying "rule no. 9" to a pic linked from a commercial site
when discussing their products(!!!) is quite ludicrous. It makes the thread less informative and therefore less useful for the forum members
and it deprives the manufacturer in question from some free publicity.
Having the pic in the thread is a win-win situation (who is it supposed to harm?), whereas removing it is a lose-lose situation (exactly who is supposed to benefit)?
Please note that I am NOT demanding an answer from a mod (in contravention of "rule no.14") – I'm merely debating with fellow forum members the sense of applying rule no. 9 to pics linked from commercial sites. I suggest that this simply restricts the free and convenient flow of information and serves no-one!
I would emphasise once more that all this is in respect of pics from
commercial sites – obviously the bandwidth argument can be a justifiable one for a private individual's site.
Particularly if a forum has loads of "rules", the onus has to be on the mods to interpret them sensibly... if I get "moderated" in future threads for what I, as a responsible adult, consider an unreasonable interpretation of forum rules a third time I will

my membership – if I'm not already banned – but I'll shut up about it now and see how I fare
Thanks for all the compliments about my build. It's only when I look back that I fully realise just how much I did. I can remember being at certain stages and thinking, "Only need to do this and this now and then it's pretty much finished", but I tend to get caught up in the details once I have an idea.
For example, the Charlie Chaplin figure was originally a sort of bits and pieces stand.
Here's a pic of one in original condition and here's the link
Charlie Chaplin, Herrendiener, Original Butler Produkt - Altona Dekoration zu verkaufen - Kijiji Altona
Mine was a damaged, surplus to requirements one that a neighbour was throwing away. I immediately adopted him and had to fill in the various holes (under arm and where shelf had been). I soon decide to change it from mere painted wood to (black stick-on

) velvet for the hat – and then the clothes. And then decided that the dishevelled tramp look demanded a crumpled surface, so took several hours making him mildly 3-D to get the effect I wanted.
It's the little details that take time (unless you just go and buy stuff or have someone – paid or voluntary – to make things for you), but make these things make it more special for both the one who builds it and for the guests.
