Use what to plug a hole up with?

Having hung my Sammy plasma on a wall, we decided to put all the boxes (V+, XBOX, PC, Wii, DVD player) under the stairs tucked away in a cupboard. After drilling a 3 inch hole in the wall for all the wires etc I can now hear the PC/XBOX fans working during quiet parts of a movie/game. I have used a car wash sponge to try and bung the hole up with to dampen the noise but it doesn't work too well. Can anyone think of anything to dung the hole up with? I'd like it to be removable as I can add or take away wires from the setup. Thanks in advance.

Just the stuff. Any ideas where I can get some (I suppose the next problem is that I need 4 inches square of it when the roll will be 20 metres?)

any decent builders merchants, B & Q and Build Center (the Wolseley group) are two main ones listed on a quick Google just now - I'd ask for a sample, pretty sure you'll get some given to you. I wouldn't say it has to be the acoustic product, i'd have thought any dense Rockwool type product would do the job too
