I would suggest you build a wooden frame, use something like chipboard flooring as a top then clad with the wood flooring.

Lovely room, great finish. How do you find the in-ceiling Kef speakers? Interested to see if your happy with the sound?

Kind Regards

Yeah, me too. Do you get a sense of 5.1 or do you find the sound coming from the front a little confusing?

Hass anyone else tried mounting the cinema speakers in the ceiling

I have just moved from 5.1 to 7.1 and I have mounted the middle left and right in the roof, right is about 8ft high and the left is about 15ft high. The rear two will be about 10ft and the two fronts three to four feet off the ground. I haven't had a chance to plug it all in as I need to terminate the 4 Cat 6 feeds and the 4 coaxial feeds. We are only in three days and the lack of feng chui is driving me mad, we are living out of boxes. As soon as I give the sounds a blast I will let you know!

Re: Homerdog's HD Lounge

Hi,

I know it is 3 years since you completed your project. I want to install a Drew Electric Fire (same as yours) in my chimney breast. Have you had any problems with it? How did you finish off the edges of the plasterboard around the fire. Has the plasterboard cracked with the heat?

Regards

Trackman

lovely set-up, fella - nice n clean.

I've seen a number of designs with slightly sunken TV's, where the wall-bracket is often screwed straight into the wall and a false wall (of sorts) is built for the TV to slot into.

My question is about the sound from the TV speakers themselves...

Does it ever sound compromised or do the TV speakers still protrude far enough from the wall for their "own sound" to come through cleanly?

thanks

Looking superb mate. Your shelf is exactly the type of thing I've been trying to plan but just couldn't decide how, layout is similar to our house but the tv is mounted on the wall in the recess above where your shelves are, want to get rid of the glass av shelf so this will be ideal. Are the wooden brackets just no more nails on the wall with strong wall plugs and screws?
Cheers for any advice.

I have a similar set up and use ceiling mounted rear speakers. See Another Floating Wall - with a slight twist

The problem I am facing now as will others who adopt a similar approach is that I now want to change the TV and hence will have to change the size of the 'hole', which depending on how you have constructed it might take a fair bit of work.

Wonderful project Homer....yet another source of inspiration.

I'm looking around for flooring at the moment - engineered probably a must for me (little more forgiving on our floors). Most of my searches were coming up about £35psm for 4mm wear layer - the one you have is 6mm and the prices seem very reasonable (less that the one's I've been looking at it). How's the floor after a couple of years? Looks great....

Hi Homergod,

I'm thinking about buying a Monolith. Is it not vibrating too much to put things on it?

Thanks

Probably too late to help you, but the floor is still like new - not that it gets any hard use!

Again sorry for the late reply, not been on here much this year!

No problems with the Drew, it's been grate!

Finished the edges with metal edging bead. No cracking problems, although we don't use the heater much, usually just have the flame effect on.

It doesn't vibrate at all, amazing really considering how it makes the room shake!

Hi Homerdog! I am just about to start my own fake chimney Brest, quick question what size stud timber did you use? Was it 63mm x 38mm? As i am going to get these this week and want to make sure these are the correct size stud work.

Thanks!
