Fixing to external wall of a timber frame house

Hi,

I ahve been reading with interest the various solutions using REsin anchors to fit through plasterboard to the external blockwork.
My external wall is a timber frame house which means we have plaster board, attached to the timberframe (width of the face which the plaster is fitted to is 80mm. Behind this is a sheet of chipboard, then the cavity, and then the external blockwork.
My best advise is that there is approx 200mm from the plasterboard to the block work.
The mount I am fitting will have 4 screw holes that line up nicely with the timber frame and then 2 that dont, and I am looking for a solution to mount this.
Is there a fixing that can have the load 200mm from the block and still support it?

Cut out the plasterboard to as big an area as possible then fit a substitute piece of ply to this space. Then fix to this piece of ply.

Just a thought, and i'm no expert but could you not fix some kinda board to the wall fixing to the studs and then fix your bracket to that. Or even a couple of battens running horitontally where your fixings are?

if you cut the plaster board out dont cut the vapour barrier. If you can get 4 fixings in the timber frame that is more than enough to mount a tv assuming that is what you are mouting

I cant make sense of this bit. Is there 80mm insulation behind the plasterboard before the studwork or is the stud work 80mm(unlikely)

it poss cls studwork so it will be about 90mm. if you can fix 4screws into the studwork it will be plenty strong enough just use some 3" 10s screws to fit the bracket, once fixed you will be able to hang yourself on it.

I have my plasma fitted to an internal stud wall using 4 coachbolts into the vertical studs and it is perfectly adequate. If you can get 4 fixings into your timber frame then you'll be fine - no need to have any into the external blockwork.

Did mine this way last weekend & i could hang the wife from it. ( now there's a thought

HI GUys,

Just to follow up on this, I purchased the AVC Cornermount bracket, and fitted it to the studs in the walls using 5 Coachbolts on each side.
I spoke to a structural engineering friend of mine and he said that the sheer load on these bolts is nearly 1.5 tonnes each so should be fine

Attached is some pictures, of the TV set-up on its stand.

Stand was easy to fit, honestly about 4 hours in total, including a trip to B&Q to buy longer bolts for mounting the bracket to the back of the TV as the ones supplied would only go 2 threads into the screw holes on the telly. Only difficulty was getting the initial screws in level, string and a spirit level along with 2 plumb lines got that sorted, and away we went.

Definitely a 2 man job.

Still surprises me that its only two little bits of bent metal that holds the bracket on the back of the TV to the Stand fixed to the well.

But its been up for 6 months now and still holding strong.
