I made a false chimeny some time ago, excuse the old pics it looks more finished than now than it does in these pics ...

Basically Ive never really liked where the kit is, in the pic below you can see its all on a TV bench to the left of the chimney.

Now what Id really like to do is get rid of the TV bench and move all the kit in to the understairs cupbaord which is at the back of the room, you can just about see it in this picture ..

I can run speaker cable in there no problem because its flat and thin and will fit under the laminate floor, but I'd need about a 15metre HDMI lead running from the chimney into the cupboard and it would be too thick to run under the laminate floor which causes me a problem in the door way between the lounge and the kitchen

For the rest of the HDMI cable run its easy enough to channel into the wall and then cover over with the skirting board, I just dont know how I could get the cable past the door way because the floor is concrete

Lastly how could I control it all if its in the cupbaord, I know you can get IR extenders but do these allow for having the kit so far away from the receiver

Hi Steve

chase a channel out of the concrete and put some ducting in, this will allow you to change it in the future if nesessary.

You`ve seen my setup mate, I now control the AV kit on the rack in the basement whilst in my new conservatory using Keene rf extenders, brilliant and simple to do

Would it be a really big job to make a channel in the concrete ?

I`d use a mini angle grinder mate and use a water spray to keep the dust down.

Also get your Gert to hold the hoover their as well
