Dehumidifier in a basement

Hi

Just completed my basement home theater after 2 years and was wondering if a dehumidifier would help in cleaning the air.

The basement is of a high standard but the air doesent smell as clean as it should even with the window open.

Do any of you have any experiance of using one in the cellar or around the house and if so what are the benefits ?

Re: Dehumidifier in a basement

Does it smell damp? Or are there any signs of damp? If so, a dehumoidifier works wonders. I got a B&Q own brand one for £70 and it pulls 2 litres of water out of the air in a 4-5 hours when its upstairs and about 6 hours downstairs, unless the heating is on and the tumble dryer and cooker are going. Its quite amazing really!

If the air doens't feel damp then maybe you need an ioniser or de-ioniser or something like that. Or maybe the air isn't circulating enough?

Re: Dehumidifier in a basement

you might need more ventilation.

Installing an extract fan is often necessary.

Get the dehumdifier if you have damp.

Agree with what has been said already - if the window is only small you might need some kind of active ventilation. Assuming the window is close to the ground outside, any air coming in might be damp anyway, especially at this time of the year.
