Exclamation ! ! ! It has started ! ! !

Hello its Chris here again. I started a post a while ago now about my bedroom as I was planning to decorate it and been doing a lot of research and I have some members in here to thank as well.

I have a few lists that I’m going to share with you, but some of them won’t be ticked of till I have raised the funds for them.

I am ready to do my room and i have started moving bits out as i type this

List of stuff I’ve got ready for decorating

Dulux Expresso Shot(feature wall)
Dulux sweet caramel(other three walls)
Paint trays and rollers
11m2 of bamboo flooring
9 energy saving down lights and wire
New radiator
Walnut affect work top
Skirting
Case for light switch
New door
Trunking

List of little bits and bobs for after room is finished

2 x 5m USB extension leads
5m VGA Lead
Powered 7 Port USB hub
Desk top charger for the N95
90 odd in 1 card reader
External DVDRW
TFT wall bracket

List of stuff I want but need to do a lot of saving up hehehe

SONY KDL40Z4500
Black Wii replacement case
Onkyo TX-SR606
Tannoy Arena Lite Sysem
IR light socket
PS3
Harmony 1000
IR2BT Infrared-to-Bluetooth converter for PS3
PS3 control dock for charging
Virgin Media
Movie centre PC (12tb)

I will be explaining each list in a post per list so people can see why I’m doing what I’m doing.

I will be adding some before pictures in the next few days plus a picture of the maze of the wires I’m going to have and where there go I’ll also be adding some pictures as I go along.

All I ask is if people like what I’m doing and want to comment on anything to change or advise, that will be cool

Heres to my bedroom and i hope it looks as good as some the others on here

List of stuff I’ve got ready for decorating

Dulux Expresso Shot and Dulux sweet caramel, thanks to D_E_A_N_O on this one as they are colours that go well and i like them. The Expresso Shotwill be used on the feature wall, and the Sweet Caramel will be used on the other 3 walls.

Paint trays and rollers, These are standard stuff from B n Q that will be chucked once finished with.

11m2 of bamboo flooring, This I got was a really good deal from Ebay and was local to me as well. 2.2m2 per pack, and 5 packs of. B n Q sell this same stuff for about £50 a pack and i got it for £100 for the 5 packs.

9 energy saving down lights and wire, Aagain these was from B n Q but the packs of 3 energy saving down lights where down to £5 a pack with bulbs cos the B n Q where i live was shutting down and i did a fair bit of shopping
The sell for about £30 odd a pack of 3.

New radiator, I got this from B n Q when they had sales in Dec 08 and I need a new one because the one i have is old, and got a reallly slow leak. Ive done a part College course in plumbing so i will be fitting this my self.

Walnut affect work top, From B n Q and was cut down to the size i need as well.

Skirting, Was in the sales at B n Q and its Pine so I might stain it to match in with the flooring.

Case for light switch, I got this because im going to be revercing the door in my room so it opens on to a wall so i need to move the light switch

New door, 1. Because i smashed the other one lol and 2. Becasue im revercing the door so it opens on to the wall.

Trunking, im using Trunking because i dont want to chase the walls out because i wont have every thing in place im going to have in my room till i save up.

Re: ! ! ! It’s coming ! ! !

List of little bits and bobs for after room is finished

2 x 5m USB extension leads, These are to come down from the loft as my PC will be up there to kill the sound and the noise and the damn dust!!!.One USB will be for my external DVDRW, and ther other will be for the powered 7 port USB hub that will be used for the printer and other bits n bobs.

5m VGA Lead, This lead again from the loft for same reasons as above but for my TFT screen.

Powered 7 Port USB hub, This is for printer, wireless keyboard n mouse and other bits that I prob dont use lol.

Desk top charger for the N95, This is insted of having a wire on the desk top so I can just plonk the phone on to that and also has a battery slot to charge the 2ed battery I got with the charger.(shame it dont have the USB connection to do the data side of it)

90 odd in 1 card reader, This is your normal card reader for any cards me or family deal with.

External DVDRW, This is a powered DVDRW that I got from Amazon for bout just under £33 inc del and is attached to one the 5m USB leads I got coming down from the loft.

TFT wall bracket, Brought from Ebay I am putting my 17" screen on my wall because it will give me a little more space on my desk and look a lot neater.

Re: ! ! ! It’s coming ! ! !

List of stuff I want but need to do a lot of saving up hehehe

SONY KDL40Z4500, This is the TV I want for now if I had the money but it might change once im ready but the cheapest I can get this one for is £1280 inc del

Black Wii replacement case, This I can prob get soon as its not that much, only about £20 from Ebay inc del and my mate is good with the Wii and will change it all over.

Onkyo TX-SR606 and Tannoy Arena Lite Sysem, Ive put these two together because im getting them from one web site a lot of u know, witch is http://www.creative-audio.co.uk/HCS_...ANNOYARENA.php and £1099 with there wire pack is a good deal, unless any one knows any different?

IR light socket, This im getting because I want to be as modern as possable and ill be able to control it via my Harmony 1000. Does any one know any that will work with the Harmony 1000?

PS3, I did have one in Nov 2007 with in a few days of them coming out, but I sold it but im going to get a new one and that will be my DVD and Blu Ray player and may be play a few games lol.

Harmony 1000, Best remote there is. My dad has the 885 modle and thats good but I like to have the best when it comes to modern boys toys lol, I will have it control every thing in my room but wont make me tea .

IR2BT Infrared-to-Bluetooth converter for PS3, This is so I can use my Harmony 1000 remote on the PS3.

PS3 control dock for charging, This is so every thing that I have will look nice once on display because I really dont want the leads to PS3 to charge the conrolers

Virgin Media, Will be getting this once I got all my AV stuff installed and set up.

Movie centre PC (12tb), This is going to be a big spend to me, again it will be done once ive got all my other stuff sorted out.

Re: ! ! ! It’s coming ! ! !

As you can all see I have uploaded some pictures for now of how bed room is looked when i first decorated and as i progressed and now how im taking it all apart again lol.

Ill try and explane some of the pictures

I hope this works lol,

This was the shelfing that i built for all my dvds and this was at about 40% finished.

This was the shelfing at 100% finished but now i need more DVDS. (all in all it only cost me about £80 to build so was quite good )

This was one of my walls in my bedroom for who that care this is how i had my walldrobe.

This is a picture of my DVD shelfs with a lot more DVDs on them lol.

This is my feature wall when i got my new every thing really.

This is a picture i did in bed with my Nokia N95 in the dark, not the best but its my celin where my fan light is.

This is the dust on my walls from the PC, and this is why im putting my PC in the loft.

This is my smashed up door lol

I think it was because the wall was uni bonded and should of had a water based coat of paint. I getting it of now with a wallpaper scraper, because the PVA has stuck to the paint and the water from the PVA gone into the wall im getting the scrapper under the paint and its coming of a lil quicker than wall paper lol

This is the picture of the halogen enertgy saving light bulbs, they cost a packet but got with the downlights when i got the packs of 3 for £5 a pack, but some of them are in the guest bedroom now lol

This is what my DVD storage looked like when i first had my bedroom done and i thought nah this wont do!!! lol so built the one as u seen above.

This is one is again back when i first done my room and even wih this as well it still wasnt enough for all my DVDs

This pic is all my stuff set up first had the room done

This one is another pic of my room with most my new stuff apart from my PC which i was building at the time.

This one is the first picture of the PC i built, it has 1.2tb witch i think is reallllly small now lol

This is the second picture of my pc but the inside when it wasnt dusty

This is a picture of my room in the dark with the walldrobe gone.

Thats about it for pictures for now. I will do my best to up date each day to show what ive been up to
.

Re: ! ! ! It’s coming ! ! !

Hello me again

I got some new pictures that im going to try and explane as ive been doing a lot of work in my room and had to make a big decision. As your see on one the pictures that the paint on my walls are peeling quicker than wall paper and i found out why. It was PVA'ed before it was painted and so ive found out now that your not ment to do that. I am going to strip the whole lot of down to the bare skimmed walls and use a watered down paint to seal the walls.

This is a really bad example of my room, but this area was under the bed and i tried to get all the mess out the way with the broom but like i said its leaking and this is the state of the pipe and being a part plumber im not happy with it and so im gonna be sorting it out before it starts to affect the living room

This is the mess that was under my bed, bad i know but because my bed is really low with a gap for rubbish to get its got really bad but i have tried to control it. Also you can see another patch where the paint had peeled

This picture is of my wall where the desk was, I have put my bed there for now while i worked around the rest of the room. You will also see a 3rd patch where the paint felt really rubbery and i got hold of a bit and yanked it and thats how much came of!

This one is just a normal picture really, nothing specal about this one.

This is a picture of the 7 port USB hub that ill be useing but will be hidden under my desk

This is a picture of the of the Nokia N95 desktop charger i got from Ebay so i dont have the cable all over the desk

This is a picture of the TRV and rad valve for my radiator because you seen the mess of my other one so i need to replace.

This is the case that ill use so i can move my light switch over when i change the door over.

This is the 1000in1 card reader thinggy lol

This here is the TFT bracket that ill be useing to put my screen on my wall

This is foil that u can put on walls to reflect heat from a radiator

This here is a picture of the bamboo flooring i pickeded up. 5 Packs (10m2) but got a feeling it might not be enough so I hope i can get some the same colour if i need it.

This is it for now im mashed and might be getting to bed early....

take care all

Hi Chris

it might make it easier to see what you are achieving if you upload your pics to photo bucket first and put your description above each one. Having to read what each pic is about then clicking on it to view it mate isn`t really the way I like to do it.

Only my opinion of course mate so please don`t take it as criticism

Apart from that I`m certain people are taking an interest but waiting for the AV kit to go in

cheers Al

Hi,

I know this might sound like a strange question, but how are you going to go about doing your radiator/changing the valve? I have a similar problem with mine in the way that the valve has just failed now, and we had a quote of £300 from a plumber to drain the system and them repair the system... this sounds a bit excessive to me, so I thought I'd ask you first.

Well I done nvq lv 1 in college and I could handle it my self mate, but ya basicly have to drain down the whole system and then your free to do what ya like really.

Once you have done that u have to take the rad of the wall and the valve or TRV you need to replace. You should see there is a olive around the pipe thats stopping the nut from coming of, the olive is a seal when the valve and that nut are tightened together.

But before you put the new valve back on wrap loads of that white tape around(forgot the name of it lol) till you nearly cant see the thread on the valve, then screw it on carfuly because you dont want to cross thread it on the valve or the nut.

Does that answer your £300 qustion lol?

Saying that tho i know i got some push fit fittings under my floorboard and im just replacing the pipe up to the rad anyway seeing im doing the whole room

Or if you local i could do it for you and put something in my TV fund

thanks for the intrest still mate, i havent really been able to do alot becuase i have a trapped nerve in my back at the moment and is affecting my whole right leg

but i am doing bits slowly. i had to strip the paint as i said before. thats all off now and been looking at the pipe for the rad. ive also put the 9 halowgen lights in, moved the switch over to the other side where i said i would. im just trying to do the wood work for the door (filling in, rubbing down etc) so i can put the new ahrchitrade in and hang the new door so its already to gloss.

i still got some filling and rubbing down to do. but i been thinking of weather to get a bambo skirting or stick to pine...?

but ive also been getting other bits in for when the room is ready.

i havent got a pic of of the bambo skirting yet because its some thing im still looking at doing but i think it will give a much better finish.

im also hoping that b n q have a half price sale on there bed room stuff for easter what would cost £1400 for custom made stuff will be £700 but its still nothing to do with AV lol, but im working on that because me and my mate worked out what a normal pc costs each month to run and a pc i would like to build would cost bout £30 a month to run lol so im going to be looking reallllly hard and comparing all the parts and working out new costs before i build my moive server.

I've just done a shed load of that too - one of the most soul destroying jobs there is!!! In the end I vowed to just get everything skimmed in the future, even if I have to save up to do it and it adds months to the job it's got to be better than the alternative
