The floating wall Begins

Afternoon All,

After reading some of the posts here and wanting to put my LCD on the wall i thought i would do a floating wall so here goes first on the list was to strip the walls. the next thing is to build the frame for the wall which will be started tomorrow and then fixing the LCD wall mount

Question's
1)What screws do you recommend to use on the frame?

2)What bolts would you recommend for fixing the LCD mount to the wall as the boltss that came with the mount i wouldn't feel safe using them?

1) what type of wall are you fixing too? If brick, I used 90mm long ones cant remember what theyr by but theyr not huge, but hold it too the wall very well. But bear in mind I am doing mine slightly differently (see my thread)

2) Coach bolts do a great job holding mine, only using 8 i think and its solid as a rock. what size if your tv?

Cheers for your reply grangey i will be fixing the frame to a brick wall, and my telly is 40" LCD mate. A bloke at work told me to use rawl bolts for my mount but thanks for your advice on the coach bolts on long are these? i'm liking you guide is your floating wall done yet? i'm hoping to complete min by next weekend so i will post any updates

just a little update have bought some anchor bolts for the LCD mount and ordered my timber for the frame to be delievered tomorrow

I am still a little unsure about these anyone else used these just to put my mind at rest. Hopefully more updates tomorrow with the frame going up.

they certainly look like theyd do the job! the thing is, alot of people (myself included) are simply over precausious with fixings for a wall mount. You dont even need as heavy duty as that unless you regularly sit on your tv...?! So im sure theyl do you fine.

My wall finally went up properly today! Iv now just gotta do a crap load of sanding ready for prep and paint!

Afternoon all,

Just a little update the timber was delieverd monday for the fame so wednesday i could make a start on the frame i just need to add somemore timber to make it a little more secure. Then on friday i will be mounting the frame and LCD mount to the wall. Just a quick question the rope lights from tlc direct do i need to buy the mains connection kit aswell?

On a side note, if you click the image icon when posting a response with pictures and enter the links like you've posted above in the box that pops up, it gives us bigger pictures to look at so saves us having a new window open to see your pics imageshack

guys on this site really need to chill out a bit with their fixings, we use rawbolts and the like to fit things like floor joists to walls and in roofing etc. having said that overkill is not a bad thing so go with what ever you are happy with.

Just an update really frame is attached to the wall and so is the LCD wall mount here are the picutures, sorry grangey but for some reason it won't let me make them bigger on the post

Don't worrie the wood isint proping anything up lol. i had forgot to mention that this was a budget build so here is what i've spent so far.

here you go bud. You're right, its Image shack that are making things awquard, but if you want to, open up the links bringing the picture into a different window... Right click on the PICTURE itself... go to properties... then copy the address under "Location". Then edit your initial post and click the image tap (yellow square with what looks like 2 mountins in it), paste the address in there... and there you go

Progress looks good! When are you hoping to be compleated?

well i did want it finished this weekend but had other things to do so i am hoping next weekend it will be finished just got to order the rope lights later today. Question we are wallpapering the living room and the wall that the floating wall is on to i just want to know if we can wallpaper on the MDF? and if so would i have to sand the MDF?

Just a little update ordered my rope lights sunday and they arrived yesturday so heres a couple of pictures Grangey it won't even let me do it that way maybe i have to make a number of post before it will let me i just don't know
