DIY Questions

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if I have posted in the correct section....but....

I am in the process of purchasing a house that needs 'gutting' and I am hoping to be able to be able to install some nice equipment.

My questions are as follow:

I would like 'mood' lighting, for example in the living room I would like an ambient light for watching movies i.e. rope lighting around edge of room/dimmed lights, coloured lighting when feeling lively i.e. led lighting behind TV and possibly in ceiling and a 'bright' setting with the downlighters on. I was wondering how to control these different circuits i.e do you have some kind of triple switch? and ideally if or how they could be controlled with something like the Harmony 1000 remote. I know it's a bit vauge, but i'm complete noob!

I would also like to know that if you have a HTPC and it is connected to the lounge TV and bedroom TV, how can both be fully controlled via a remote? Can Cat5 cable be used in some way for this?

How do wireless/networked music systems work? As I would love to have music in the kitchen and bathroom running from a music library (HTPC?) and what systems are avaliable that don't cost the earth?

Apologies for the lack of knowledge, but I have to start somewhere!

Many thanks in advance for any replies!

John

Re: DIY Questions

You are probably best asking the PC related questions in the PC section of the forums

Take a look at Bardel's thread for some ideas on mood lighting around the ceiling. The LED strip light used can be controlled via a IR (e.g. Harmony) or RF remote.
